Starting Over in 2012

Recommended Posts

I was banded 10/08/2008 at 326lbs. I was down to 192 in May 2011 when my band slightly slipped. The slip was not bad enough for insurance to consider it medically necessary to repair. If I have much of a fill then I can hardly drink Water during the day and only get down Soups and ice cream at night. So I get dehydrated and still don't lose much due to malnourishment and a large consumption of ice cream at night. This has caused my metabolism to plumit. I was used to a lot of restriction and now have NONE!! I have gained nearly 100lbs in 1 1/2 years. I know I have to do this on my own at least for now. At my last lap band appt I was at 255 in August 2012. I want to try this on my own and when I get back to about 260 go back to see him. I will then try a small fill and go from there. I was wearing 14's comfortably and now in 24's. This is so hard for me to write. I am balling my eyes out right now but I know this is my fault. Wish me luck and motivation.

I assume the Dr unfilled your band to allow it to settle back into position?

i am so sorry to hear this. i just had a revision and i can't imagine what it would be like to have to live with a slipped band. can you appeal the insurance now that you've gained the weight? before my revision i was living on Soups and ice cream too. i totally get it. luckily, i only had about 6 weeks of living that way. you really need to push for the surgery. there must be a way to make them see that it IS necessary for your health and well-being! that said, i am impressed at how you are taking the bull by the horns instead of letting it kick you in the rear. i am rooting for you and i'm here if you need support.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
