New and saying Hi!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am new to the site. I have not gotten my surgery yet. I just finished doing all the requirements for insurance approval and had my 2nd apt yesterday. I must say it has been a little discouraging because it seems my Dr. has tried to push me towards gastric sleeve. I have been considering and researching lap band for 3-4 years not going to make a drastic decision to change. I am now waiting insurance approval. The Doctor did tell me to research lap band with plication. I looked into this last night on the computer. Apparently it's a band but they also staple your staple your stomach into a banana like shape. Seems to be like gastric sleeve without the cutting. Not sure what to think about this. It is also not FDA approved because it has not been out long enough. I have plenty of time to think about it probably won't get my surgery until the end of the school year in June. Well looking forward to this journey and talking to others who have been through it!

Hi I would recomend you to view a video on you tube called Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy: My Story and Basic Bariatric Information From Erika Jones. In my opinion this video helps you to know the best surgery option for you. Good Luck.

Good luck on your journey please do your research, my doctor also tried to talk me out of the lap band and go for more complicated surgery. I did not want to be cut inside so I stuck to my guns and he did the surgery, I think there was information out there that the band was not working as well as the other options. But I still did some more research and I still wanted the band. Good luck to you Hugs

With all WLS they're still just a tool and success depends on you.

My sis had gastric bypass lost a lot fast, but didn't work on her head hunger and ended up gaining it all back.

I chose LB b/c it's less invasive. I want to keep my parts the way God put them.lol

There are ppl here who have LB with plication and doing really well, but a lot of insurance co. won't pay for it yet.

It is your decision. Like Lassie said, do your research and stick to what you want.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replys. I feel like I have done my research but it's hard when the professional you are going to for your procedure is trying to talk you out of it. He even said," I thought I'd be able to convince you to change you mind." Well this site is definately a postive influence to see how well some of you are doing with your LB.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
