Our Rescued Iguanas

Recommended Posts

My husband and I rescue mistreated reptiles. These babies were in the worst conditions when we got them. BJ is just a baby that we got yesterday. A handsome little guy. Anastasia we have had for two years. She had severe Calcium deficiency and was paralyzed. With proper vet care and our love she is now completely healed and is moving about freely. Only damage left is one leg that does not fuction all the way. Our love for these babies is ever lasting. If you want an iguana just know they are not simple creatures to keep. They require a lot of work, expensive to feed, and very large enclosures as the get to be six feet long. Love my babies.

I hate to see any mistreated animals ever. They can not help themselves. We are the ones who have domesticated cats, dogs, reptiles. So we should take care of them not abuse them. Any one that can just let their animals go likea piece of garbage deserves to be treated the same way. When you take on the role as a parent for animals you know it is for the life time of that animal. No excuse is a good one to drop them off at a shelter just because you have to move, can't take them with you, cant feed them or take them to the vet. You know that when you get them that all these things can happen so if you can't commit for the life of the pet then don't get any.

Amen Cheryl. I have worked with rescued dogs and cats for years. How is little BJ adjusting? I am sure he will thrive on your love and care!

He is doing great. Still has some wounds healing but he is doing just fine, eating, growing, shedding normally. Taming him will be the hardest because they are so frightened when they are so little.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
