New Years Jump Start

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any plans for a New Years jump start to get back on track after the holiday season? I am looking for some ideas as I have not lost any weight in December. I was thinking of going back on liquids for a few days up to a week and then doing high Protein for a while. Does anyone else have any suggestions or ideas?

Granted I'm no doctor and this is strictly what works for me, but when I get stuck or need to regroup, I carb cycle for a couple weeks. If you'd like to learn more there's a very long thread on it here: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/159669-carb-cycling-an-experiment-gone-right/

Again, this is just what seems to help me (and some others, as you'll see on the thread). I really believe the trick is figuring out what works best for your specific body and metabolism. Some do high protein/low carb, some just count calories, others just restrict fat. For me, the carb cycling works well getting me back on track and losing.

Yeah, I need to get back on track as well. I have lost nothing in December and it's all my fault. I plan on doing some shakes, then maybe the carb cycling. I feel like I need to DETOX to get all of this sugar out of me

Are you setting a goal for January? I think I might do that as well.

I probably do need to set a goal for January. That is a good idea. I was thinking of doing the liquids for a few days to sort of detox from the sugar as well. I think I am going to look into the carb cycling thing. That may be a good idea. Thanks everyone!

I decided that i would make a semi long term goal to reach a certin number at easter while everyone else is eating choccie!!

I think im just going to be ultra strict on myself with chew chew chew chew chew, exercise and actually taking my multi Vitamin daily as opposed to maybe once a week! Its next to ny coffee machine so i dont really have any excuse.

When you guys have mentioned detox what do you do???? Please tell me its not like that fad from years ago having liqiud grass!!! But im very interested in tips for detox. Thanks!

No, no fad. I was just talking about fasting from food for a few days. Only doing Protein Shakes and liquids. I find that kind of helps in resetting your body after eating sugar, and rich foods that are not part of your daily routine.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
