ok, I had my lapband surgery october 9th. I have lost 27 pounds. I am mentally exhausted with life right now. How can I get motivated to exercise and eat right if I cant even think straight. It takes EVERYTHING I have just to get out of bed. What is going on with me! I cant get motivated. I am achy and hurt. I feel like a failure!

You havnt had your surgery very long. When I had mine it was very hard for me to get motivated to move because I was in so much pain. As the pain started to cease I gained more energy and my attitude changed to want to move more. I made myself get up even though I didnt want to. I felt as if I slept I wouldnt feel the pain. You are most def not a failure. ANyone who has enough courage to have this surgery is strong. I made myself walk to mailbox daily to get a lil exercise. I was scared of blood clots. Once the pain subsides you will be better. We are here for you to help you threw this. I wish I would have logged on here sooner. I had my surgery in 2008 and went threw it alone. There were many days that I cried and bawled because I felt the same way but as time passed I got better.

I had my surgery Oct 15, haven't done much exercise b/c I need double knee replacement. But I'm not feeling like you.

Are you getting your required Protein & fluids?

Sounds like you should talk withDr or nutritionist.

Hope you feel better soon.

Are you eating a balanced diet and taking Vitamins? It's sounds like unless there are other factors in your life which are causing this maybe you aren't getting the proper nutrition. Certainly I am no dr so I would advise you to speak with yours about it.

Hi, sorry to hear your down. Sounds like there is a lot going on in your life with the band just one aspect that is stressing you. Any chance you can speak to a counsellor or even your GP and check your not suffering from depression? Being tired, not wanting to do anything or face the world is a common symptom.

I noticed in your pic you have kids. Is there anyone who can watch them for an hour or so to let you get out of the house and just go for a walk to clear your head? Some small steps to take care of you, both physically and mentally may help you find a way past this tense time.

It is a cycle, isn't it? Things are stressful, busy, hard, you feel exhausted... and that cycle continues until you do something to pull yourself out of it. When I feel like you do, I know that it's my depression talking and that I need to go back on my meds (which I take during the wintertime, because I have SADD).

The cycle is hard to break out of! For sure. It is something that takes great effort. However, once you make a small step you will feel tons better!

As far as the exercise, it is something you just have to DO. Tell yourself that you will make time for yourself and do it. It sounds counterproductive, but I promise, you will actually get MORE energy by starting to exercise than you do when you don't. You will be tired initially, but soon your body will start releasing wonderful endorphins that will make you feel all kinds of good after you exercise! When I'm exercising every day, my emotional side feels better, my body itself feels better, I have more energy, and I'm just happier. It really works wonder on the brain and the body :)

Have you talked to your physician about it? You may need some antidepressants. Sometimes you need that to get over the hump. Lapband is such a major process which is why we go through such exhaustive preop regime. Don't be afraid to ask as this is for you, to better yourself. Take care of yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
