Question for the ladies...

I was banded on the 18th... Got my period on dec. 11. I now have it again. Anyone else have an early period due to the surgery??

Sounds perfectly normal. Your body is going through major changes, especially the initial weight loss which can affect your menstrual cycle. I had my period immediately after surgery and then again a few weeks later. Once my body got used to the changes, my cycle settled back into normal - and then menopause kicked in, but that's another story!

Good luck.

Its not uncommon for your cycle to be thrown off, if it continues you might want to mention it to your doctors.

I might call tomorrow just to be sure. I'm usually sooooo regular that getting it 2 weeks early really threw me off.

Mine stopped all together....lol. I was 50 years old and was regular for 35 years... I had it the week before surgery and then missed the next month. I was so freaked out I bought a pregnancy test!!! Which considering hubby had a vasectomy 10 years ago would have been interesting. The 2 nd month nothing... I went to the OBGYN. She wasn't worried and said surgery sometimes messes with your cycle. After 6 months of nothing I went back and she did blood work and come to find out my surgery may have brought on menopause...go figure !!! The point is... I would not worry about missing one or 2 cycles if you can rule out pregnancy.

Lol thank you Floridays! I can definitely rule out pregnancy :) my husband had a vasectomy 4 years ago.

Floridays is correct, having surgery can mess up your cycles. I've had 8 surgeries and each time it takes about two cycles to get back on track. But my body is super sensitive. Just traveling can throw it off. Just give it time.

Me too! Mine went missing, though. I was supposed to get it shortly before I started my pre-op diet, but I think the low calories threw it off. Then surgery. It finally came (nearly a month late) three days after surgery, but it was super light and only lasted a couple days. I'd be freaking out except my husband also had a vasectomy more than a year ago. Come to think of it... I still feel relief every month when my period comes. LOL :)

Only if you can't rule out pregnancy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
