Hope everything goes okay. On a lesser scale, once I started drinking coffee again (Canada's Tim Hortons) things have been moving along quite nicely...............yikes.

I had to go to the ER with severe Constipation a few weeks after my surgery. I was backed up all the way into my intestines. I never want to hear the words "enema", "rectal exam" and "fecal impaction" again! Pure hell indeed! I am sorry you had to go through that, and the hernia. :( Try to be patient. These hiccups along the way can be incredibly discouraging but hang in there.

Thank you everyone. It's so complicated. Basically the surgeon wants a CT scan because he's concerned the Constipation could be a bowel obstruction due to a hernia from the incision sites, I dont even have my staples out yet. I had 2 enemas, suppository, and manual decompaction, but I'm still stuck! If there is an obstruction, I will have to have another surgery today. I'm freaking out

This is common post surgery, as stated above, from the anesthesia and pain meds. Adequate iud intake, stool softeners, and increased activity will be things you need to agresssively pursue once you are home. We are praying for you.

My nutritionist told me not to take laxitives because they would dehydrate me, I'm regretting following her advice. I'm praying the CT comes out ok. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers

Once I got home from the hospital I started to use Miralax powder. Tasteless, gentle!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
