There is no "do not touch" food list.

If you can handle it, eat it. Carbs are not bad, they are in fact, your friend. We need to eat the whole range of foods, not just protien.

One ear of sweet white corn:

83.2 calories, Protein 2.6, fat 1.0, carbs 19.3, Fiber 2.1, sodium 13.1

http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts-B00001-01c21VS.html for more complete corn information

I think this may depend on your surgeon. Mine gave me a "no-no" list of foods, and yes, corn is on it. Along with other foods that are high in carbs. I know that the reason that I got so heavy is because of too many carbs...so....carbs are not my friend. If one ear of corn is 19.3 carbs, then I would be allowed no more carbs for that day. Ask your doc, they are all different.

As a vegetarian, I eat a high amount of carbs and am losing weight. It's not the carbs that made me fat, but the fact that I ate enough to feed a football team.

I was on Atkins for 2 years once and developed diverticulitis from it. I also could not sustain that way of eating and as soon as I ate carbs, I never saw weight pour back on so fast. WOW. In all my dieting years, I never had such a rebound and then some than I did from that diet. But there again, I didn't lose weight because I ate too much on that too.

I occasionally eat a small ear of corn on the cob...maybe every other week or less. (We go to a lot of weekend barbeques and its usually a better choice than potato salad or macaroni salad.) I have had absolutely no problems with eating corn. I agree with Vines, there should really be NOTHING that you make off limits, just use some discretion on portions and how often you indulge.

My husband just had his surgery, he is 4 days post op so he is still on Clear Liquids until everything heals up inside. He loves corn and from what I hear it can obstruct the band along with some other foods, we are going by what the nutritionist is telling us. I don't want to tell him he can't have something if he really can try it, but at the same time I don't want him to injure himself or the band either.

I eat corn occasionally and have not had a problem with it . I have ate it without problem when other foods would not go down.I do tend to avoid it now because my band is really tight. I would enjoy it while I could!!

Also if you eat protien first then have the corn your band is not going to let you eat enough to spoil your weight loss. Just remember all foods are better for you if they came from the earth and not man made.

corn = chew-chew-chew-chew you will be O.K

I was told that corn was a no-no. I love the stuff. Just remember...it is very high in carbs!

My dr never said anything about not having corn. I have corn chowder every now and again and have on occasion ate out and mixed my corn with my mashed potatoes and gravy. In moderation I believe you can have almost anything. I am 2 yrs out from being banded and to goal and bread, Pasta and sugar are the only things I find cause major problems and I try to stay away from on an every day basis. Corn does usually help to regulate me since being banded has caused issues with regularity. I occasionally crave popcorn and have some at home on a weekend when you are prone to cheat. Not as fattening as chips and dip and it satisfies me and my evil twin that causes the head hunger! Good luck and keep trying different things that work for you.

I do eat corn on the cob, but never canned corn. One of my go to fast food places is KFC. I buy grilled chicken breast and get corn as the side. I never eat bread anymore so I think having corn once or twice a month is the least of my worries.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
