Having a pity party for myself right now. I'm only a week out and I just feel awful emotionally. I am afraid I made the wrong choice. I'm upset with myself for not just sticking to a flipping eating plan, because I am good at losing weight, just not good at maintaining weight. I could have done this myself! Why didn't I? I should have had some counseling instead of surgery.

My stomach hurts today and I can't eat anything, don't feel like drinking anything. I am so afraid I am going to be one of the ones who will have tons of problems or can't eat lettuce, etc. I am wishing I could rewind a week ago and decide that I wasn't going to get the band.

Did anyone else feel like this? Did you get over it? Did you feel better later? Any support or encouragement would really be appreciated.

You have just gone through surgery, had a medical device implanted, drank liquids for heavens knows how long...and made it through the holidays....... Give yourself a break. What you are feeling is buyers remorse and once the weight starts coming off.... You will be so pleased with the results. In the meantime let your mind and body heal.....

I was banded on 12/19 and have asked myself several times "why did i do this to myself." Then i get on this website and read how the people who have been banded for a while say that this is the best decision they ever made. So, since we can't go back in time, i choose to believe that a year from now i will be among the people who believe that getting banded was a great choice.

I too questioned my decision the first few days after surgery...I think it's perfectly normal....it's still only been 9 days for me but I feel so much better physically than I did when I was thinking "why did I do this to myself" and I am glad I went through with it..I hope you begin to feel the same way too ...Best wishes to you..

My head tried to play games with me like that but I wouldn't listen. You have a foreign body inside you, it said. So! I'll give it a name. You'll never succeed. Yes I will. You will have medical problems with your ban or something. NO! I refuse. Buck up, honey. It's a mind game. Take a good attitude and move forward.

Banded on 12-14 and had more than my share of pity parties the first week and 1/2. Trust me I am only 12 days out and feel so much better. It is not easy all the time as right now I have no restriction so I am pretty much just on a diet. But made it thorough 2 big days this week including hosting and cooking for Christmas Eve. It does get better'

yeah I am wishing I could rewind a week ago and decide that I wasn't going to get the band.

I would be surprised if you invest the time and energy to your band if you don't change your mind....

I guarantee at 10wks (which I am) you'll be saying best decision you've ever made.

My clothes are falling off me daily.

Follow your Drs orders and your clothes will start falling off too, only thing is this time it will stay off.

Happy with my band!

What you are feeling is totally normal. Go to my profile and read some of my posts about how i felt right after surgery. I cried every single day for almost 2 weeks. Once i started eating regular food, my emotions and hormones got under control and i felt sooooo much better. Hang in there.....i promise you will feel better soon and you will not regret getting your band.

Xoxo

You are going through an emotional withdrawal of sorts from food too. If it was that easy for us to follow a diet and stick to it, we wouldn't have sought out the band to begin with. This is a lifelong tool to help you from the years of yoyo dieting that most of us have done. I was very emotional after surgery and missing my relationship with food. It does get easier and it does get better. I don't regret one second of it.

You cannot undo it so try to focus your energies on what you need to do, getting active, etc.

I believe you will be here this time next year saying it was the best decision you ever made. :)

I had the "D'OH" avatar with Homer Simpson smacking his forehead for a few days myself....about 4 or 5 days into my first week postOp.

I felt horrid, all those negative imaginations that made me wonder.

That passed in a couple of days.

That was December 2004 for me.

Since then, even my worst postOp day has been BETTER than my best preOp day for about 15 years before surgery!!!

It will pass.

Plan your strategy. Save at least ONE set of your FAT clothes to show off over the next 6-12 months, as you will not believe you ever wore that stuff.

Prepare for a GREAT postOp life!!!

It's coming.

Happy New Year.

Cheers on your journey.

Thanks everyone. That is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a good idea to increase my meds while I go through the beginning of this stage. I seem to be having minor freak outs and panic attacks every time something doesn't seem right.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
