Mlhutz625 and Carrie360, agreed let's keep in touch. I am new to this forum and like what I see. Knowing we have bands near the same time is helpful. And reading other successful people on here is so exciting. I am in Tampa, good luck with your pre op diet and upcoming surgery. Can't wait to hear more

Congratulations! Yes- lets keep in touch. It is nice to come on here and read the support.. especially when you are trying to stick to a diet and there are so many holiday left overs!!! It is all worth it thou!!

Hi! I'm January 9th, and I am SO excited. I started my 2-week liquid diet on the 26th, so this is the end of day three. It's been really hard. My doctor used to require only Optifast (6 a day for 14 days), but they're transitioning to something else, so no one knows what I should be doing. I've just decided to limit my calories under 1000 a day and have a least 80-100 grams of Protein (which is what the nutritionist recommended), and try different Protein shakes. But I haven't figured out my correct ratio of calories to Protein, so today I had too much protein and too few calories.

Today was really hard, though. The first two days I felt kind of sick (dizzy, tired, faintly sick to my stomach), but today I have been hungry. I nearly broke and ate some sandwich, but luckily my sister called at that very moment and kept me from sabatoging myself. This is really hard, but I keep thinking about how this is only the first few days of a very, very long journey. It's kind of scary!

Good luck to everyone going through this journey!

With my doctor I had to meet with a nutritionist which was nice because they gave a pre and post diet that was realistic. Starting off I can still eat food but use shakes as Meal Replacements as well. I'm on a 1200 calorie pre-op diet. I hope that you find the balance you need and stay strong it's worth it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
