Recommended Posts

I found the post op checklist. How about help in posting a pre-op one? I'm particurarly interested in those traveling out of country (mexico) Any special things to bring to the hospital or for the long trips some of us make?

Bring a pillow to hold in your lap for coughing and putting seat belt on for return trip.

Wear very loose pants... PJs best... don't wear your tight jeans!

You will not wear your bra after surgery, so a non-clinging top that you can't see your nippies through.

100% Cotton Socks only.

No eating or drinking day of surgery.

Stop frequently afterwards to pee if you got 3 bags of fluids like I did!

Good Luck with your surgery!

Wow! Some of these I find pretty scary! I will be flying home 3 days after surgery...so I will have to wear the seatbelt on the plane. I may have to ask for a seatbelt extender...do they still use them or will I have to buy an extra seat to get one? And bra-less? No Way!!! My girls are free only in the privacy of home, I would turn and knock over some unsuspecting flight attendant or something!!! Seriously I am way too big to be braless in public! I will be banded on the 24th of this month, I wasn't worried at all...til now!

I don't know about the seatbelt extender. The pillow is to minimize to discomfort of the seatbelt. Bra-less: One of my incisions was right where my bra lies on my breast bone. I couldn't wear a bra for two weeks because of this incision. Also my boobs were stuck to my stomach from the sticky stuff they put on my stomach. It took a lot of scrubbing to get that sticky goo off. Eye makeup remover helped.

Do you have a sports bra? I wore a sports bra for a few hours a day after the first two weeks. Anything that restricted my rib cage made me very uncomfortable for at least 3 weeks. If no sports bra, try an under shirt. My best friend bought some of the build-in bra tanks like I bought to wear for the first few weeks. She has more boobs then I do, so she wore her husbands muscle shirts underneath. Worked great for her.

I hope this helps.

Hi Shontel,

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I was banded 12 days ago, came out of surgery 6:30 PM and was dressed to go home WITH a bra on 14 hours later. Make sure you wear a loose fitting bra and show the surgeon where your natural "bra line" is. Also, bring a soft pad or a sanitary pad that you cut up to place under the bra if you find the incision is too close to the bra line. You'll do great... don't worry.

Thanks for the great advice...I will take all I can get! Sounds like it is time to dig to the bottom of the lingerie drawer and find the granny panties and the loose worn out bras!! I KNEW there was a reason I never throw anything away! I am going to make sure to mention to my Dr. about having to wear a bra home so maybe that will help. I appreciate the help!

My Momma had some sleep bras that hook in the front and are real loose but keep the girls from sweating and sticking to my stomach---I inherited them when she passed away. I usually only wear them when company is spending the night, but they will come in really handy for this, it sounds like.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
