drinks detrimental on weight loss?

Recommended Posts

When it comes to food I'm not fussy I will eat whatever. The reason I had the band done is because I simply ate too much even though it's not take away or bbq meals. I never really had a problem with junk food only had it on occasion. drinks on the other hand are my weakness (not alcohol)

I love my soft drinks and energy drinks. Is it possible to lose weight while still having drinks? I can cut to the sugar free range but I must have drinks. Of course I still do drink Water but I can't do without my drinks. I asked the doctor and he says diet soda is ok but just gotta watch out as it's still calories. Can't be too much calories though right?

I think maybe you misunderstood your doctor. Diet soda is zero calories so it's not any calories at all.

However, soda of any kind is carbonated. The majority of doctors forbid carbonation of any kind after Lap Band surgery because carbonation can lead to complications and slips. So, for that reason, normally soda is off limits after band surgery.

Energy drinks are often very high in calories and sugar, so be careful with them.

I'd go back and talk to your doctor again.

My Dr required no carbonation so its not an option for me. He feels its greatly will do damage to the band.

However I cannot see how you could lose weight drinking sugary soda unless you count it as part of your calories count. And since most bandsters in the losing stage will be between 1000-1200 calories... that would be a big chunk of it. I might revisit this with your dr.

Drink whatever... just don;t come on here whining when you don't lose weight or you have problems with your band failing you! Do you want to lose weight or not? Suck it up you are old enough for surgery, you are old enough to do what is right.

Sorry, not feeling generous or loving today. Life is what you make it!

I think you already know the answer to that. Remember, it's not just calories that makes pop unhealthy.

If I can tolerate soda is that a bad thing? I heard that it gives you a lot of pain but I feel nothing at all.

I miss my diet coke, but found a new passion for iced tea. We have a great shop in Australia, called T2. Lots of fruity and herbal tea varieties. I brew the tea and then add chunks of fruit or herbs like mint for sweetness. It gives me something to enjoy now soda is off the cards. I've also found adding things like lemon, cucumber or mint to just plain Water feels like a treat.

Diet cordial or diluted juice frozen and blended up like a slurpee could be another option.

I prefer to save my calories for food, drinking them away just seems like a waste.

Just because it doesn't give you physical pain doesn't mean it is not causing harm behind the scenes.. why take that chance? I LOVE soda! believe me.. one of the hardest things to give up.. but it's something we all have to do when we make this commitment to have the band surgery.

and like Chez says.. life is what you make it. I personally don't think you will be successful if you choose to continue drinking those types of drinks. They are easy to not count them as part of your diet.. and empty calories.

I agree Cheznoel. Do what you want but dot cry about it afterwards. With me, I try this and that and see how my body reacts (weight up or down) and how I feel.

I had a diet coke addiction prior to surgery. Knowing that i could cause myself physical harm by drinking it has kept me away. Im a high risk patient so failure is not an option. Its tough but im slowly doing what i need to do

That is awesome, congratulations! I was the same way with soda and would drink 3-4 a day before WLS and now I am staying well away from them and sticking to Water. I just don't want to take any chances of screwing anything up.

Thank you sunshine. I am about half way to meeting my goal weight. My profile picture was taken 3 days before surgery and then a week and a half after...I was amazed. You still have 4 months and I am sure you will look great.

4 months? I have only been banded for a month.... im noticing a big change all ready. I think thats the hard part... realizing that the surgery isn't an instant transformation... that it takes time for the weight to fall off... i cant believe it... im watching a new person emerge :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
