I feel like such a fraud

Recommended Posts

All I have ever know was Lane Bryant (or Lane Giant as I like to call it - and I can because I am a regular customer! Sorry if I offend anyone) or the "Women's" department that is hidden on the third or fifth floor behind housewares of any department store. Now I am in a size that I don't have to shop in those places anymore. But I am scared and feel like a fraud. I don't belong in The Loft or "normal" people stores...

How did you all make the transition from the "big girl" stores/departments to the "normal girl" stores/departments?

At 228 I still have to shop in the Big Girl section (Women's or Plus), so I don't know what it is going to feel like to shop in "Normal" departments. I've been at this damned plateau for a month, so I am feeling like I may NEVER know...sigh...

It takes a while for your head to catch up with your body. Just ease into it. I still find myself looking in the larger sizes on occassion and then I realize that none of those clothes fit me anymore....LOL. You will get the hang of it. =)

I am just now able to shop in the "normal" section, although in the bigger sizes of the normal section. I find myself looking at the other women and smiling thinking "WOW am I really able to wear the same cute things that "skinny mini" woman is able to wear!" It is a good feeling!

Taking it one day at a time.

wow I feel exactly the same way!

I used to go shopping with my sisters and while they got cool clothes in normal stores/normal departments, I had to slink away to the large size departments. It used to suck big time having to be the only one unable to fit into normal sizes. Now I suddenly feel awkward and strangely out of place in the regular departments. (but that may also be because I barely fit into the normal size clothes, and i'm sort of teetering on the edge of both depts)

Give it time girl! You'll stop feeling bizarre and you'l truly enjoy it!

I was so excited that my clothing sizes where shrinking that I danced into the normal section..... lol

I still have a hard time believing that I wear a size 10. I'll pick up a pair of 10 pants and think "too small" so I always take size 10 & 12 to the fitting room..... yep, the 12's are too big, I really am a size 10.

You will get use to the change (& it's a great change)!

Good luck on your journey, enjoy all the NSV like this!

With glee! Just bought a size 8 jean from Coldwater Creek today. Tried it on with I thought was a Medium top... it was huge, so I asked the lady to bring me a small, She looked at me and said... really, the one you have on is an XL. OOPS.... medium fit great! I still have large ladies!

Never be afraid or ashamed to be "contra-normal". It is our time and we have waited enough!

I am exstatic to say the least to shop for smaller clothes and not rely on plus size clothes. The only store I hate to shop is Ross because their clothes are so much smaller made then most. But a large to me is excitement and soon to be in a medium.

I didn't really realize that I was able to shop in some normal stores until my work out partner brought me her clothes that she no longer fit in. I'm an 18 and I still shop women's I can buy old navy jeans and wear XL tops. I really dislike wearing baggy or large clothing so I guess I adjusted pretty quick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
