Hi everyone! My name is Errika. I was banded this past Friday, December 21st, and I'm having trouble getting my normal amount of Water down. Before surgery I would drink 5 bottles every day and now I can barely get 2-3 bottles in. I'm worried I'm not getting enough. Is this normal?

You are still swollen from surgery, so you will not be able to drink as much, just for awhile. I found I was trying to drink too much too , when I was first banded, made me feel horrible . Just continued sipping all day until swelling goes down.

I found out warmer drinks go down easier, warm herbal tea & sf hot chocolate.

Happy Holiday's!

I agree, this is normal. Just keep sipping! No one expects you to drink all your Water the few days after your banding. Keep sipping, do no guzzle! Best wishes and Merry Christmas!

Happy Holidays! I was also banded December 21st and am just wondering about the sipping too. I do sip everything I drink but is this just because I'm newly banded? Will I eventually be able to take a gulp of something? Just curious.....

Hi and Merry Christmas.

It is totally normal. Day 10 and I was drinking Water as normal. I don't chug like I used to, but you will be able to drink normally!

Congrats to you!

I had trouble too. Do as much as u can but don't push it. Your healing and have a few weeks of getting use to your band. It is the most important part but don't worry unless it is affecting the way u feel

I'm having the same issue! My nail beds are cracked, my skin is dry. Diarreah is not helping either. I'm going to talk to the nurse tomorrow. At what point do you go get an IV for dehydration? Im sipping all I can... ugh this sucks :(

I basically have to force myself to drink too as we'll as eat. I'm pretty sure that I'm not getting enough, but I'm just not hungry. I'm kind of glad that I'm not hungry. I'm sure it's because the band is doing its job. I really do want to get my Fluid in though, that way I won't retain. I've just been taking everyone's advice and sipping 2-3 ounces at a time to help get in as much as I can.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
