Long time lurker, banded 12/19, guess an intro is in order.

Recommended Posts

I'm Ashley, 23 years old from Oklahoma. I was banded on Wednesday by Dr. Ronnie Keith in Norman. Definitely didn't expect to be in quite as much pain as I was, but finally starting to feel like a normal person again.

Down 18 pounds since my last weigh-in before my pre-op diet but I definitely am still feeling the bloating and such. My doctor didn't give me really strict or specific instructions for when to move to full liquids and then mushies, so I am sticking with Protein Shakes, some Soups, applesauce, etc.

Would love chatting with anyone--it's helpful to see (hear?) all the stories and posts here. :)

I had mine Feb 4,2010 and I was on liquids for 6 weeks because I couldn't eat the mushies, everyone is different, but I lost really well, from 189 lbs to 135 lbs, so you'll get use to it don't worry it will be fine, good luck.

Congratulations and welcome to this great forum. here as you already know, will be people sharing what they've personally gone through and you will get valuable experiences on how to handle most situations. Hints, tips, and knowledge will be found here.

I stayed on liquids for a time(4 weeks) to let my sore spots heal. Then I went to Stage 2 foods. I sometimes go back to liquids for Breakfast and lunch, especially during the holidays. It keeps me honest in case I eat the wrong food types during a special dinner. Sometimes heavily carbed foods are only available and even if you stay on 1-1.5 cups of food per intake, they can be the wrong food types.

Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
