9 days post op and on soft foods, anyone else?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery the 14th and I am already eating greek yogurt and refried Beans. I was so hungry the doctor had me start softs. I am down 19 lbs since surgery day. I can't have a fill until the 24th of January to allow more healing time. Anyone else experience extreme hunger? What did you do?

I had surgery on the 17th and am also starving. I have had a couple bites of chicken and chewed really well, but am too scared to eat much more. Yogurt and Soup just aren't doing it for me anymore either.

Try to avoid drinking while eating, the restriction is more effective. Plus, don't worry, once you start restricting (filling band) you'll notice the appetite dramatically go down.

Be careful because once something gets stuck, it's very awkward! So, bear with it, eat sugar free Jello and such and avoid empty calories.

My friend who has now been banded for almost 2 years said just to listen to your body. I am a week post op and have had 1/4 cups of refried Beans and mashed potatoes here and there. Also vanilla yogurt has been ok. Eating these things feels much better to my stomach than those Protein Shakes. For whatever reason the drink goes down ok but after a few min it feels like it expands in my stomach and hurts. Tried some egg drop Soup yesterday, thinking the egg would help me get my Protein intake and went down and felt great to my stomach. So far so good, but just taking it really easy and just little bits.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
