Question about 6mo supervised diet-aetna

Recommended Posts

If I gain a little weight during this supervised diet, is that bad for Aetna to see?

I had Aetna and the 6mth supervised diet and I tried to keep an even keel. Afraid to lose too much and afraid not to lose enough. I did lose a couple pounds per month and I think I did gain one month. In total I lost 20 lbs before being approved. After that I really got serious while waiting for surgery date and have been serious since.

Whatever you do, do not miss one month, not even by a couple of days, or they make you start again.

My PCP went on vacation and my last appt was the end of July and the next one was going to be the first week of Sept b/c of his vacation and the Bariatric Office had a fit and had to have someone filling in for Dr to see me in the month of August. I had one week to see my Drs back up and everything turned out ok.

Best of luck!

Thanks maddy...so as long as its once during each month it's okay, right? I go the last week of every month, that should be okay right?

Just try to lose more than you gain :)

I have Aetna and had to do the six month diet as well. I was on the very low end of the BMI to qualify so I was affraid of losing too much and them not approving. I pretty much yo-yo'd the whole time! After 6 months I only ended up with a total of 5lbs weight loss and was approved :)

I yo-yo'd a ton and I even think I had a net gain, but was still approved

I had BCBS btw

I have Aetna too...they required proof of being over weight 2+ years 4 months nutritional and weight management visits, with my BMI....was this 9 months an additional requirement, just wondering if that's something I would have to do too

There are a lot of different types of Aetna. I live in NY and have Aetna ppo (high). I need 6mo supervised from my doctor + 2years being overweight + everything else. I am 3 months in.

I have Aetna and I gained weight since my initial visit. I didn't have any problems. In fact Aetna has called me twice to see how I'm doing because they thought I already had my surgery! LOL! I didn't start my diet until the 2 weeks pre-op. I'm scheduled for the 31st so I'll let you know!

Maybe, but I doubt it. Years ago my insurance didn't even cover weight loss surgery. If they are provided with information indicating this has been on ongoing issue for you, you'll probably be okay. When I explained to the rep that I had not had surgery and the reasons why she was very nice and understanding. She didn't mention a thing about weight gain or loss. You could say they approved my surgery before I was ready!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
