5 days post op and NOT hungry

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I was banded on the 18th. My doc put me right on mushies but I'm just not hungry. Of course I'm eating every few hours - just a few bites- and drinking in between but I'm eating by the clock... Not my body telling me I'm hungry - because I'm not hungry. I've been having yogurt, oatmeal, Protein Shakes, Water, sugar free Jello and Popsicles. Today is the first day I've felt normal-ish. Still site pain but nothing major. I go see the doc on jan 2nd for follow up.

congrats on your surgery...i too wasnt hungry for about 2 weeks because my insides were still swollen. as the healing goes down, our appetite will come back. now is the time to get your positive attitude and band commitment in check...focusing on getting your liquids in and your protein..hang in there okay :)

Thank you! I'm forcing everything down. I mean i don't get to a point of regurgitation, i stop and rest after each bite/sip but I just don't feel hungry. And the burps feel so funny lol. I feel them from my toes!

I'm 3 days post op and haven't had much except Water, propel water and very little chicken broth. I'm supposed to be having only Clear Liquids. I'm scared because I'm not sure what else I can have and I'm worried about not getting enough Protein in my body. I am taking all my Vitamins though. Do you think I will be okay?

I would say to follow your doctors orders and you should be ok. They do make Protein Powder that can be dissolved in Water. They have vanilla and choc flavored and its sold at GNC. I've been mixing the vanilla one scoop 3x day in yogurt. Not the best, but gets me my Protein. My doc had me skip the Clear Liquids and put me right on mushies but I feel like it was too fast. I'm definitely drinking more than eating. I've also been drinking Protein Shakes. Hope that helped. Congrats!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
