If new pouch stretches out??

Recommended Posts

Just go back, stay on course, and continue to eat only 1 cup of food with each meal. Go to lots of Protein for a fuller sensation.

For the newly banded, chances of you stretching your pouch this early is probably nil. Stretching your pouch happens over a longer period of time and can cause your band to slip. In my situation I kept a loose band due to severe allergy drainage, thus, I didn't have the tight restriction and I started eating more than I should (about 2 cups of food) per meal.

From my floroscopy appointment showing the pouch in good shape to the appointment showing it had stretched was about 4 months. I went in for fill and what a surprise I got! My doc gave me a warning and told me to be seen in 4 months and if she found the pouch the same she would deflate me completely and I would do the 6 week liquid thing. During this warning period I was instructed to measure my food and eat only 1 cup per meal. Well, as scared as I was, I did the liquid thing anyway and was truly hell!!! My follow-up appointment showed my pouch back to normal, thank God! Hope this helps. Jake

Can you stretch it from drinking too fast?

No, liquids go right through the pouch, unless you are way too tight. This is why your doc will have you drink Water after a fill. In addition, food stuck episodes cause your pouch/stoma area to swell and could cause liquids to not be able to go down. Rule of thumb, is when you have a stuck episode lasting 1 hour or more, you should go on liquids or mushies for at least one day. All doctors have different rules and the ones I offer are from my doc.

For the newly banded, you should drink Water slowly until everything has healed completely. Later on you will know how fast you should or should not drink liquids. jake

For me, it feels like a golf ball in my esophagus, then a dull like pain all over accompanied by sweating, then comes the slime spit up. Your esophagus squeezes your food in intervals down towards the stomach and if the stoma is holding back food because the entrance to your large stomach is blocked the body's defense is to create slime. If the object comes up with the slime the stuck episode is over, however, if a larger piece of food stays stuck in the stoma, it may take awhile to get it through and the acids in pineapple juice will usually help dislodge the piece. Trust me, you'll know when you've had a stuck episode and will avoid them at all costs. After one or two and the unpleasant feeling, you will quickly learn to chew well and eat slowly. jake

Wow, I don't mean to scare you. Please don't let this freak you out. Stuck episodes are caused by eating too fast or not chewing your food well. These are basic rules that a bandster must follow. There are some bandsters that never or seldom experience stuck episodes because they learn from get go.

As for me, before the band a meal was downed under 5 minutes, so you can imagine, it took me awhile to rediscover how to eat and take time to chew well and eat slowly. I now seldom ever have stuck episodes. jake

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
