Hello,

I'm 20 days post op today and have been gaining weight. Initially I lost some weight but as soon as I had the go ahead to move on from the liquid diet I have been gaining the weight I lost back. I haven't weighed myself but I feel it. I'm not going to lie, I've done a little cheating here and there but nothing crazy! Can that be the cause? I haven't had any fills yet because my doctor requires 6 weeks post op.

You definitely have to stick with the diet. I was so sick of shakes I stopped them the second I could have solid food! I ended up having small Snacks all day like cheese, fruit, yogurt, celery with Peanut Butter, lots of things. I had to eat my big meal for lunch, not dinner because I was starving by then. It's hard. Just remember, meat the size of your palm, no sauces, or fried food! You'll get a chance to cheat later and it'll get harder to cheat after fills. I was 215 in May and 170 now. I eat pizza still once a week, it's just thin crust veggie. If you need support anytime let me know!

Your post is very common mainly because almost every one of us has had the same experience 6 weeks or more into this journey. Seems like most all had selective hearing when we went through the seminars, research and nutrition meetings? I know I did. I really thought I'd immediatly start losing weight and feel satisfied with a small meal. HA! Not a chance. Some are lucky and it does work that way but for most, not!

I was banded a little over a year ago(11/28/11). I lost 12 lbs the first two weeks and then nothing for the next 3.5 months. Then I got my 3rd fill and met with my nutritionist. The weight began to fall off after that. Relax, what you are experiencing is very normal and has happened to most of us. Seems like I was hungrier after the surgery than ever before. But, I was a good boy and ate healthy foods, but maybe not the 1/2 cup I was told to eat. Try to eat the band way as much as possible. I know it's very hard and none of us wanted to go back on a diet immediately after surgery.

You'll be in "bandster hell" until you get the fill that gives you enough restriction for the band to work it's magic. That may be 1 fill or 6. No one knows. Till then, like our esteemed forum member B-52 says, "

"Until there's restriction...It's just another diet"

Same.. it is bandster hell, and I am still in it! I do great for the "most" part.. but I have this and that now and then also.. waiting for the AHA moment.. and try to follow Dr's orders best ya can. If you feel yourself gaining weight.. see a nutritionist and figure out frorm your diet what it is you can improve. From what I am told, the smallest changes can get ya on that weight loss path again. Just try to find what works for you. Just remember.. everyone loses weight differently. Good Luck hun! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
