I'm 10 days post op and I've been craving a sandwich. Well I broke down and ate one yesterday and I feel so guilty. I'm suppose to Be on liquids still but i took small bites and chewed it until it was like liquid. Almost took me 45 minutes to eat it. I mean if the world is going to end tomorrow I didn't want to go without eating a sandwich. Lol ( just kidding) but I am now staying strong on my liquids until Monday which is when my mushies begin. I feel bad though!

Hopefully you feel badly enough to avoid that mistake again... ;)

You could have caused some serious damage this early on. I know how hard this is... But I also know you must want this badly ...so jump back on board and make it happen. You can do it!

i am gonna be kinda tough so i am sorry now.

i am sure you are okay but you are on liquids because your insides are swollen....and in dealing with your dr and nutritionist, i am sure they advised you to stop

eating at 20 min regardless if you were full or if food was left. i can eat a whole pizza..i am sure if i did little bites in an hours time. that being said, the only person you would be hurting is you. you deserve to treat yourself better. you went through alot to get this surgery...stay on track and stay focused.

please, follow your dr's orders okay. i wish you a wonderful holiday.

I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but eating a sandwich when you're only 10 days post op and on liquids is incredibly foolish. Your stomach has been stitched and wounded. It needs time to heal. By not sticking to the post op diet your doctor put you on, you are putting yourself at very real risk for serious complications.

Stick to your post op diet from now on. It's not the risk of problems.

Best wishes.

I feel fine but may I ask what type of damage may have happened. My doctors or nurses didn't really tell me much after my operation. I'm not going to do it again but I'm just wondering.

well, you (from what my dr's told me in reference) that sutures are in place..holding the band (and in my case plication) , a too big of bite could have

undone them (as they have to heal).and so on...just be careful. like floridas said, hope this scares you enough to not do it again. in my seminar, hearing these stories scared me enough to follow course.

hang in there, it will get better honey, i promise :)

Well like I said I wasn't really advised on anything.i honestly feel that I got the surgery and was thrown out of there right after. They just have me a paper that said liquids 1-2 week and mushies 3 week and fourth I can start having meals. I actually have been learning a lot from here. Thanks you guys and yes I know it was stupid and I won't be doing that again. Especially when I think of all the pain I went through to get this far. I've already lost 24lbs and I shouldn't be trying to get comfortable! Thanks for the tough love!

Well I've never heard anything that could happen to be honest. But like I said they were extremely small bites and very well chewed. I'm just not going to risk that again for anything. Thanks

I do feel for people that aren't given a lot of instructions from their doctors/nutritionist. I agree w/ the above posts. I know you know better now, just please know this really could cause complications. Your stomach shouldn't be churning solid foods before the doctor recommends. You could cause the band to slip, tear sutures, etc. It is hard when you start getting hungry and feeling better but be strong. It gets better and you can do this!

For me the hardest part is the emotional "divorce" from food. Now that I am 5 mos. post op I don't crave or miss those things. On occasion, sure but overall, no and not to where I "have" to have it.

My health is far more important now!!!

Please come back w/ any questions and for support. I think that make a huge difference in your success.

Can I ask. Can you drink to much at a time that it can damage the band?!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
