Bitter taste with protein drinks

Recommended Posts

I am three weeks post-op and am having a hard time finding Protein Drinks that don't leave a horrible taste in my mouth. It started after surgery and i was diagnosed with thrush and a yeast infection, i thought that after that cleared the taste would go away, but it hasn't. I have tried multiple types of drinks, Isopure, slim-fast low carb, a couple different flavors from supplement superstores, and unflavored any whey, but they all have the same after taste. Does anyone have any ideas or helpful hints to get rid of this taste or new ideas of things i can try? Any advice would be really helpful! Thank you!

First off are u still suppose to be on shakes? Have they not let u move on to something different?

Anyway what flavor have u tried? If u like sweet I have found that adding in 1 tbsp of sf ff butterscotch pudding and a small amount of Peanut Butter mixed with a chocolate shakes helps a lot. Or making a peanut butter chocolate one or a peanut butter banana chocolate shake. Hope that gives u a few options to try!

The myoplex lite isn't bad, but my favorite right now is Slim-Fast Protein- I drink these every morning and they don't leave that odd after taste a lot of Protein Shakes do.

I've used costco Premier Protein shakes since I've started, no matter what Stage of eating. It's a way for most of us to grab a high amount of Protein into our systems for Breakfast and sometimes eggs, oatmeal and other Breakfast items don't do it for me. I find a Protein shake, gives me the protein with less amount of animal fats and lower carbs than an egg or oatmeal.< /p>

We are suppose to move on to other food items to give us a balance, but most of us carry busy lives and I feel for my breakfast and sometimes lunch, a Protein Shake will do, then top it off with a generous dinner. This keeps me close to my 1200-1260 calorie intake.

Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

While they shouldn't be our main source of food; shakes do have there place. I second premier brand ready to drink.

I started shopping for Protein Shakes now, while I'm on my 6 mth dr supervised diet. I tried many brands that leave that nasty taste...but I have found a gem...Syntrax Matrix...they have all kinds of flavors! The banana cream, strawberries n cream, milk chocolate, and mint chocolate are my favorites...its not at all like drinking Protein, its more like having a treat! Mixed with 8 oz of fat free milk, it comes up to right at 200 calories, 32 g protein, 3 g carbs...I have found myself wanting to drink a Protein Shake now that i've found these! I ordered them and some other things to just try out from www.mybariatricpantry.com the people there are super friendly and they ship really fast. You can order samples as well...that way you don't have a cabinet full of gross protein that you spent a lot of money on. They also offer specials, so be sure to click on their "specials" tab for possible savings codes! Good luck!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
