Finally my first fill tomorrow the 20th

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited to finally getting my first feel tomorrow! Can anyone help me in what to expect? Will it hurt? Will they numb the area? And how will I know if it's too tight or not tight enough before I leave. I'm kinda nervous but excited too, your input would be greatly appreciated. :-)

Went for my first fill today & they didn't numb it. It was a little painful but didn't last long. Not sure yet if mine is too tight or not tight enough because I haven't eaten anything. Good luck.

The stick is just like getting blood drawn.

My Dr had me lay down on table and left my legs off table a couple inches to tighten abdominal muscles. He felt around a little injected me, had me sit up a drink a cup of Water. The whole thing took minutes. It's really no big deal.

Your Dr is going to be so proud of you. You make sure he acknowledges that YOU lost the weight, not band.

Good luck!

It doesn't hurt, it's like a pinprick and its over in seconds. I don't get any numbing. I get asked to lay down put my hands crossed over my chest and lift my head up, once my port is located I get asked to relax and the fill gets put in. You should be asked to drink some Water and see how that goes down. Being your first fill and depending how much is put in you may find there is no difference. It takes a few fills to really start noticing restriction but then you may be one of the lucky ones and feel it right away.

So relax its not that bad and good luck!!

Hiya it is a worry the unexpected, but I can assure you, it will be fine, I laid down my port is quite out their, the clean area, withdraw to see how much is in band, also checking no leeks extra, then they refill, it done in seconds, then a wipe, I have a hot then cold drink I. Waiting area, if no probs I leave, sometimes I have a little bruse, painless just a little scatch, don't worry you will be fine x

Why does it take a few fills to notice? Why don't the doctor give you the amount you need? Is it to make money?

Naw, it isn't about money. You have to approach green zone slowly. They don't want to blow right past it and start doing a lot of unfills.

If they over fill you it could cause you to vomit and that's not good.

My Dr said on average it takes between 4-7.5 cc sometimes more sometimes less.

I had 3cc first fill scheduled another fill 6wks later.

Is it normally 2 cc's? That's great if they do but I thought it was just 1 cc to start off with.

I had my 2nd fill today! First fill was 4cc and today 1cc. So 5cc in a 10cc band. Banded 10.23.12. Today he pulled out the 4cc to make sure there is no leak and then put back 5cc. No lidocaine needed. No leak..barely felt it..took less than a minute!

Had my first fill yesterday. My fill was uncomfortable. I think I was still really sore from surgery. He gave me 2 cc. I was told to be on liquids for 2 days. Well....I tried a few mashed potatoes and really paid for it later. Moral of the story, do what your doctor says!

My first fill was 3 ccs. I was told it was the most aggressive fill I would get. Next fill was 1.5. I go in Wednesday for 3rd fill.

I have the realize band (14ccs). My doc always numbs first. I always have to drink Water before I leave. If I can get it down then all is well.

My appointments are longer than in and out because I ask a LOT.of questions. They are really good about answering them too.

I love having a team on my side!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
