Hi Everyone! I'm Julie. I'm 48 years old, mom of 3, married 25 years and my last kiddies moved out of the house last August to go to college. I said when that happened, when we became "empty nesters," that would be "me" time. I was 163 lbs when I got married and on surgery date weighed 277 lbs. As of this morning I'm 260.1 (tomorrow will be one week post-op). I'm a little nervous that I am losing too fast but I'm not really hungry and I am drinking protine shakes and I find that a 1/4 cup of split pea Soup can hold me over for hours and make me feel full and satasfied! Lots of people know that I am dieting but only by darling hubby knows that I had the surgery. At work I told people that I was having a hernia repaired to explain the days off. So anyway, I'm excited for this journey! I have some mini goals set for myself thoughout the next year and I'll be anxious to see if I can meet them. I love this forum and all of the support that I see on it. I'm happy to be a part of it!

Congrats! I was banded on 12/13 and also told everyone the same thing although I did have to have a bad hernia repair as well I left out the rest. Didn't want to hear the criticism or the you can just exercise and lose the weight speech from others :-) I am a sahm that home schools as well so I have had a hard time resting like I should of so I am still sore. How are you feeling? My doctor still has me on a clear liquid diet and I can finally go to cream Soups on Friday which is seeming like forever! Not that I am starving, I just would like to eat normal food lol

I was banded 12/12/12 also. Anyone else feeling hungry. I'm sticking to the sample menu they gave me and the list of other suggested foods, and hitting my Protein and liquid requirements every day and still feel hungry...its really discouraging, like I'm doing something wrong.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
