DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted December 18, 2012 Well a couple things. The first 4-6 weeks post surgery are for healing, not losing, so I'm more than a little shocked your surgeon gave you a weight loss goal for the first month after surgery. The body has been through a lot and needs time to heal, not to mention the post op surgery diet phases aren't very helpful for losing. With that said, I did lose consistently even during the post op diet phases. The way I lost is by religiously counting calories- which I still do to this very day 11 months later. So, if you want to lose during the healing phase, counting calories is what I'd suggest. 1 2muchfun reacted to this
wildrose1966 396 Posted December 18, 2012 11 days post op and you are eating fish and veggies and meats??? I know every doctor is different but 11 days post op I was still on liquids. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I am 3 months post op and losing minimally, I am not at restriction, I am eating healthy and controled portions and calories, in all reality I am on a diet. (and if diets worked for us we wouldn't have gotten the band). I have been told and don't expect to start really losing until my band is at restriction and that could be in another 1 month or 3 months, until then........a diet. I am shocked that your dr gave you a weight loss goal. I had my 3rd fill last week and my nurse high fived me for losing 3lbs in 4 weeks........ Your band is not working for you yet and until you reach restriction you really do need to go easy on yourself. good luck. 3 DebbieC1970, 2muchfun and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

line-dancer 810 Posted December 18, 2012 wow not much weight loss durning the healing period the body is holding on to Water to help you heal...As you get you fills you will be able to do more and eat less and not be hungry it is way to early to be depressed at not .right away it will come. Heal, rest and practice eating correctly slow bits, chew very well, wait in between bites 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and 2muchfun reacted to this

honk 780 Posted December 18, 2012 Are you weighing the Protein? My doctor says 3 oz solid protein. Buy a food scale and start weighing. If you don't you WILL overeat.
2muchfun 8,927 Posted December 18, 2012 Your doctor has a very unique protocol for his/her patient? There may be some exceptions but I know of no other forum members or patients whose doctor advised them to lose 10+ lbs before their first post op appt? I assure you the lapband is not a joke. There can be so many reasons why you have not lost weight. Sodium intake, fluids pumped into you during surgery, meds, menstrual cycle, drinking a gallon of Water a day, etc can make you retain fluids. Drinking a gallon of Water a day can deplete your system of needed nutrients, mostly potassium which enables your bodies muscles to operate normally. This is very dangerous to your heart so be very careful how much you drink? You could be losing the nutrients that you need to lose weight and your body is compensating by retaining those fluids? Slow down and eat normally. That means, eat Protein first, veggies second. Stop the extremes such as a gallon of water. Don't dwell on how much weight you lose at this point. I see this all the time and we've always been told that this is a time for healing, not losing mass weight. 11 days means nothing in this journey and no need to threaten to throw in the towel and panic until you've gone 4 months without losing weight. 11 days is a pebble of sand on the beach in the grand scheme. tmf 4 DebbieC1970, tattoomommy, DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! and 1 other reacted to this
Hynita 113 Posted December 18, 2012 I really didn't start losing a lot until I was getting fills I'm two years post op and am down a 125lbs. Went from a size 24 jeans to a size 9. It takes time and lots of patience. Good luck to you 1 2muchfun reacted to this
daisychains7 427 Posted December 18, 2012 I see so many posts like this, and it concerns me that so many surgeons are giving their patients unrealistic expectations for weight loss within the first couple months after surgery. You had surgery only 11 days ago and are still healing from the trauma your body went through. You were pumped full of fluids and medications. You also dropped a ton of weight in pre-op. Your body needs to adjust to it's new normal. I am very concerned that you are eating fish and solid vegetables only 11 days after surgery. My surgeon made it very clear that the first 6 weeks were for healing, not weight loss. In fact, I GAINED 8lbs when I switched to mushies. After that, I avoided my scale those first couple months. Things stabilized after that. Please be patient and remember this is a marathon, not a sprint. Once you heal, learn the new way of eating (chewing thoroughly, lots of Water, small bites, measuring your portions), and get fills, the weight loss will come. 4 DebbieC1970, DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!, 2muchfun and 1 other reacted to this

DebbieC1970 58 Posted December 18, 2012 You guys have given her great advice. I am shocked about what the doctor is allowing her to eat so quickly. I have surgery Thursday and I'm on a two-week liquid diet after surgery and two weeks of mushy foods after that. I also have a minimum amount of Protein that I need to get in every day. I was also told to measure your food and only eat one cup. And that food needs to be eaten very slowly within 30 minutes and then you're supposed to stop. The problem is not all doctors have a good support staff for their patients. Do you have a nutritionist that deals with bariatric patients? I also agree about the comment about the Water, it being too much. We were told 64 ounces a day, you are drinking double that.
joni2 27 Posted December 20, 2012 Please listen to these posts don't get discouraged so soon. I agree wih the others, the fact that you ate solids so soon could be the biggest problem. I WMD suggest you call th DR. and ask questions .u might want to try going back to liquid diet @ many a Protein Drink. Slow down on the h2 o 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
