I'm not a huge drinker but I usually have a beer if I'm in a social setting. Is that off limits forever once I'm banded? I know it's not recommended but would it kill me?

My clinic said no alcohol for 6 months and beer would be carbonated.....no carbonation forever. Wine might a better option.

Unless you plan on drinking flat beer my dr would tell you it shouldn't be under consideration. Wine or another no carbonation choice would be best. Just make it part of your daily calorie count.

agree with floridas and wild, def choose something else w/o carbonation. my dr and nutritionist said no to this..i guess its just a matter of preference and one's dr. why take that change..anyhow, a glass of wine sounds nice to me...

I drink beer all the time....like anything else, you just have to know what you're doing.....although 2 is my limit...I get bloated faster with a small shrunk stomach.....

And NEVER>>>NEVER with or around food!!!

BTW, my Doc and I always talk about going out for a beer together someday.....man talk...

And for those who say you should not....do you know why you shouldn't???

I spoke with my dr about it, he told me why he tells his patients no.......and it's not what you might think....

Ok, spill it. Why does he tell his patience no? I'm curious cuz I love a couple beers every now & then. Haven't had one in months!

Tell me too!

Same with diet Pepsi.

That is gonna be so hard to give up forever :/

I figure high amounts of moderation and things should be ok right?

Because most people are irresponsible and cannot manage the risks...... so it is better to tell them no and leave it at that.....

You have to be 100% certain that that anything carbonated will pass right through the band and NEVER accumulate there for any reason.....so you have to know if there is anything there to slow down that flow....

you also have to sip it very slowly, making sure it passes through.....once I took a large swallow, meaning it had to sit there as it slowly passed through the band....Felt Like someone drove a knife into my chest!!! The Pain!!!

My doctor tells me that beer or pop is fine in moderation. She just said with beer it is calories that we dont "need" and diet pop makes you more hungry because of the artificial sweetener...
