I Feel I want this thing out of me...

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery in 2008 in Gainesville, FL., everything went allright for about a year went from 379lbs to 255lbs, never could break the 250lbs mark. I got frustrated after that and started a new job with more stress and less exercise. Now, I feel in like I am drowning everynight, I am back up to 350lbs just sick and tired of throwing up and feeling this way. I just really want this thing out of me .

So sorry to hear that......

Since you were banded in 2008, there is probably not much you haven't heard or tried, so you probably won't hear anything new from this forum......

From this group and others I belong to, I have come to the conclusion that there are cases where the band just does not go well with the individual.....

Every attempt is made during the pre-surgery testing, screening, etc, and unfortunately it does happen.

I don't know you or your situation, but speaking for myself, I really wanted to loose weight...life or death, and I was, and still am, willing to make any sacrifices needed....

I joked with my Dr. and said "I don't care if you wire my jaw shut, ANYTHING to loose this weight"

One good thing about the band, it is reversible and can be removed, unlike by-pass, etc.

I used to LOVE food, and LOVE cooking....I had to turn my back on the thing I loved, and in a way, make it my enemy....always there to do me harm....

I also believe, having the band and continuing to over eat can, and probably will do more harm physically than good...abuse to the band is never good......2008 is a long time

You did so good on the first year. Wonder why it just working for you! Did you try and write down food intake to see if some foods were wrong for you. Was a dietitian consulted by you during the time it all of a sudden quit working. Guess all of us are different otherwis ewe would all be skinny.

Best wishes

I was banded in 2008. I lost nearly 50 pounds. Then I stopped. I've kept most of the weight off, but haven't lost anything major. I have been so frustrated with my band, but also with myself. I exercise and the weight is still about the same. I disliked the teamv of doctors i was working with. I found a new doctor, and am now considering the sleeve. But before I go there. I'm going to fight with this band for another 6 months to one year. I didn't have support throughout my band journey until now. I realized that there was so many things I didn't know. I had to learn creativity. I had to be real honest with myself about what I had done to cause me to remain where I am. I had to go harder and do better.

You should be reexamined to see how the band is doing. You should consider the 5 day pouch test to see where you are with you eating. You can get through this. I can support you. I know just what you are dealing with and how long you've been struggling. I'm here if you want the support.

Another option is just to have it totally unfilled...if you haven't had a slip or something then you should be back to "normal" and it should feel the same as having "that thing" taken out

I can't even imagine what you are going through, physically and mentally. I'm sure all of this is depleting you of energy, and it must be a daily struggle to remain hopeful and positive. Take the time to really evaluate what you want to do next. Right now, it seems you are at a standstill and you have a few options to consider. Weigh the pros & cons carefully and then make the best decision for you. Your physical & mental health are crucial to your all-around well-being.

Don't forget that you did it once, and you were very successful. Don't forget that you have inner-strength and determination. Don't forget that you are human and will make mistakes at times, but most of all, don't forget you are so worth it.

Good Luck and many blessings your way~ xooxxoxo

Please know that everyone has a different experience and expectations with the band! Don't be discouraged or frustrated! 6 years ago when I got my band I would have thought it was impossible to ever go backwards or sideways! I would have stood on my pedestal and preached my commitment! However, my insurance did not pay for my surgery, therefore every appointment I went to came out of my pocket! Recently as the economy has gotten worse, so has my ability to be able to pay for frequent visits. Life happens! I also need to re-commit to my health and remember the reason I got the band in the first place! I would like you to join me in getting back on track! Re-adjust our expectations and give it another shot! One fail does not make us failures!!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
