Ugh so discouraged

Recommended Posts

I got banded almost a year ago (Feb) and was doing great at first, but now I am starting to gain weight. I am only eating 1000 calories per day (sometimes less). I don't get it and am so disappointed and getting depressed. So far I have only lost 20 lbs. what am I doing wrong??? I have had 5 fills. I just don't get it. Ready for them to just take the band out!

Are you exercising? Eating Protein and veggies?

I try to walk at least 2 miles a day. As for veggies the only ones I like is lettuce and carrots.

With or without the band, if you only eat 1,000 calories a day, you should be losing weight? None of us got fat eating 1,000 calories/day. What do you think is the problem?

Have you ever tracked your calories or kept a journal?

Are you still hungry after a meal?

Do you snack?

Have you visited with your nutritionist?

What does your doctor say?

Do you feel restriction or are you in the green zone?

I do track my food with my app on my iPhone. To be honest I'm not hungry most of the time that I eat but know that I need to eat even just a little bit. As for the place I got banded, they don't know why I am gaining, but there is not much support from them. Feel like they don't care or have the time. I don't have a nutritionist and I guess it is time to get one. Just feel like a HUGE failure.

Have you had your thyroid checked?

You aren't a failure. I've been at a standstill a long time. Honestly, if they were to take Fluid out you would gain. You would be hungrier and eat more. You discussed your calorie intake, but how much of that is Protein? What kind of exercise do you do other than walking? Its something going on, but you can get through this.

I usually get in about 50 grams of Protein. Thanks for all the replies everyone. I really appreciate it

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
