My name is Jess, I'm 26 years old, mother of two. I've recently been looking into getting consulted for the lapband surgery. I've been overweight nearly my entire life. I'm 5'3'' and my highest weight was 245lbs in 2007. I stayed at that weight for at least 2 years before attempting to lose it. I managed to get down to 180 by July 2010 - That's the smallest I had been in a very long time.

I got pregnant with my youngest child and went back up to 240. I worked out again for months and got down to the low 190s ..but I've been bouncing between 195-210 for the past few months even with diet and exercise.

My husbands insurance kicked in at Ford and they say the lap band surgery is covered but I har to have a Bmi of 40.. Mine isn't quite 38 (i current weigh 208lbs). So I have set up an appointment with a doctor and have her supervise me for 6 months on a weightless program. I'm hoping to be seen some time this week.

Good luck! I'm not banded yet but I hope to be next year.

Don't hesitate to do this for yourself. It's the very best decision I EVER made!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
