How Much Did You Gain After Moving On To Solids?

Recommended Posts

I hear that a weight gain after your liquid stage beforer your first fill (or sweet spot) is to be expected. Could you guys please tell me how much you lost and regained in this transition?

I didn't gain any going from liquid to mushy. I was losing nicely but it was on my own will power, so my doctor refused to give me a fill, even though I told him it wasn't going to last. I was so upset. So I purposely gained 2 lbs so he would believe me...nice eh. I didn't get my first fill until 4 months after surgery.

Everyone is different but if you watch your calories when you make the transition you'll be okay.

I didn't gain any weight either, but I do remember my loss slowing down dramatically. I lost about 20 lbs before my first fill, which was about two months after surgery. Most of that loss came in the 2 weeks right after surgery, and the rest in the following 6 weeks. By the time of my fill my weight had been steady for a couple of weeks.

I gained about four pounds when I started solids, and have lost two of those. I have only lost two pounds total in the last four weeks despite watching my calories and exercising. I have lost 20 pounds all together in seven weeks from surgery.

I didn't gain any weight, but my weightloss did "stall" as I got more daring with my solids. By my home scale I lost about 52# between surgery and first fill (was on Wed), but in the last week or two prior to my fill my scale didn't budge.

My doctor had me on Clear liquids for 3 days, full liquids for another week, then mushies for a week. And I did not have to do a pre-op diet. I lost 12 pounds from day of surgery to first fill - a period of one month. The nurse at my surgeon's office (also banded) had advised me not to weigh in the meantime, and I didn't. She said the same thing....that after the liquid/mushy phase you regain and it can be demoralizing.

The band does not begin to work until you achieve good restriction, so don't start counting the pounds until you have at least one fill under your belt (pun intended).

I am three weeks post op and have lost 12kg (about 27lbs). I did liquids for the first week and mushies for the second. I have eaten solid foods this last week but admit I prefer the softer stuff. I don't really feel any restriction and am waiting for my first fill (allowed here after a month). It's will power that has kept me from eating too much and gaining back the pounds but I like watching the scale go down and so I reckon I can keep it up a little longer.

I gained 5 lbs during the two weeks that I was on solids before my first fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
