Hi y'all!

I'm FLmama...I have 2 babies (3 and an infant) and am a SAHM. I am going to my required information session on Wednesday! I have PCOS and have struggled with my weight my entire adult life (once I started having PCOS symptoms). I've been researching various weight loss surgeries for several years and our new insurance covers it starting 1/1, so now is the time!

I've been on Atkins for about 6 months (the only thing that works for my PCOS is carb restriction), but I am looking forward to getting rid of the fats it requires. I've only lost 10 lbs in that time (of course my hubby dropped all of his spare weight like it was nothing!). I'm 5'4" and 265.

My biggest concern/fear is the surgery itself...my mother passed when I was a preschooler and I don't want my babies to go through that. So I'm scared to death of the anesthesia! :)

Looking forward to getting to know you guys!

Well, first of all, you're going to want anesthesia. This isn't much fun without it ;)

For me, the anesthesia was incredibly traumatic. It took me a week to start to feel normal again. I was in shock for the first 3 days. It's just an uncomfortable feeling for me. I don't see where many other forum members complain or comment on the anesthesia? It's mostly the pain from incisions and shoulder pain from the gas they pump in you. Good luck and no need to worry over it, it's a necessary evil. But it does make me be very careful not to mess up my surgery because I do not want to go there again.

I have had anesthesia numerous times. It is normal to be nervous, but don't worry or stress. You will do fine! Welcome!

i've had anasthesia before and it still stresses me out. I remeber feeling weird for 1-2 days after. If this helps you out in any way, I asked the question to my anasthesist if many die during anasthesia. He said its a rish but its very minimal. almost non-existant. When they operate, the anasthesia team stays there just in case something goes wrong and if there is, they are usually ready to deal with any possible problem that could happen. And if something REALLY bad would happen (like drying for example) they are ready to deal with that also and today, re-animation techniques work very well. So chances of you drying are very slim. I'm not saying this to scare you but these are also thoughts I had and it reassured me.

I also have PCOS and have had weight issues since I was diagnosed in 2004. My doctor said that he is confident that WLS will definitely help. Not that i'm super overweight but mostly because of high blood pressure (hereditary) and i'm pre-diabetic (also hereditary) then WLS is a good tool to keep my weight to a healthy level and therefore, will probably stabilize the pressure and the diabetes. I can't wait to get finally banded in January...I feel It will be a new beginning for me. See it that way also. Now your kids will have a healthy/healthier mother :-)

Good luck with your decision.

I also have PCOS and am really confident and hopeful that losing weight will fix the PCOS and me and my husband will be able to conceive! And also because I want to be healthy and be able to play with the little blessings. I've had anesthesia several times with no complications. I know it's scary, but know that you'll be monitored very closely just in case!

Welcome I am new here too. Yes we have an incredible adventure ahead of us but I believe and in fact know that life is going to get better! We are going to have and deserve to be happy. You have a long way to go due to having young children. They need their Mom to be at her best, emotionally, financially, but most of all healthy. It is never too late. Do your research like I am doing and we will be fine. Take Care.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
