Hello fellow Bandsters! I had my surgery almost 2 wks. ago on 3-28-06! I had it at Edmond Medical Center, in Edmond Oklahoma, a suburb of Okla. City! They have a small Bariatric unit and I had wonderful care. Dr. Philp Floyd was my surgeon. Very kind and reasurring. I am on pureed "food" and Protein Drinks at this time and of course lot's of water! I haven't had any problems to speak of. My Dietician has been a HUGE help. I will have my first post-op visit on Tuesday. I'm excited to see if I've lost any weight. The biggest surprise since the surgery is that I'm really not hungry. I think it is the 1st time in my life I've experienced this!:D I'm so happy I was lead to this website! :)

I live in Edmond. I used to do some work in Chickasha occasionally. My insurance agent is also there. It looks like you are really doing well. I hope we can keep in touch! Do you go to a support group?

Hi Carol! Glad to see you found your way to the intro section. Congratulations on your banding and welcome to LBT!!

Sounds like you're doing great! It's amazing to not be hungry, isn't it? But be prepared for the morning when you realize you ARE hungry again--it amy or may not happen but if it does don't panic. It's normal and just means everything inside is healing up perfectly. Then the trick will be holding on until you get your first fill. Everyone goes through this stage, and while of course everyone is concerned about sabotaging their weight loss and not wanting to "diet," I think the important thing is not to let yourself get TOO hungry. Don't be afraid to eat, because if you get overhungry you might end up gorging a little which can be bad for a newly banded stomach.

Anyway, welcome again and we look forward to getting to know you!

I was banded Friday 4/7 . Yesterday my throat was so sore I could barely swallow. I kmow that was from the tube in my throat. But today I'm having trouble with all this phlegm in my throat and everytime I try to cough it feels like my insides are breaking!! Any body familiar with these feelings? Any solution to the "mucussy" throat?

Hello All

I am a 50+ traveling woman who has tried every diet available. My work sometimes has me in 5 states in 5 days so it was hard to stay on a specific regimen. I hope the band (done in Houston by Dr. Spivak) will get me in tune with what my body really needs to live. I love to eat so I am prepared for a challenging journey

I had the same problem. I had surgery on 4-4-06. The surgery center gave me a plastic breathing thing that helped clear out my lungs. Hold a pillow over your stomach if you have to cough. Warm liquids have been the best thing for me so far. I am having a hard time drinking colder items. I tried egg drop Soup for the first time today and it was wonderful. Hang in there. Keep slowly sipping liquids. I think it will keep getting better each day!

Hi Carol, I'm about your age and was banded 3-29-06. I live in Texas. Just thought I would ask you, you seem to be doing wonderfully--are you sore? Stelis2

Yes, I was really sore, especially at the incision site for the port. My allergies have been acting up, and it seemed like I was always having to cough. I was also having trouble taking a really deep breath. My pillow became my best friend, by me holding it tightly against the site. Then about 4 days ago all of a sudden I noticed I wasn't hurting any more and I could yawn and breath nomally. I can still feel something there but no pain. I am really lucky though I don't have to really do anything but recover. I really feel for those of you that have to go back to work just a couple of days after your surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
