Post Gall bladder removal

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I'm currently in hospital about 5 hours post op from having my gall bladder removed, not feeling too bad, a little sore but overall quite well.

I was just wondering how people went with recovery from gall bladder removal? Did you find it easier/ to recover from than the lapband? I'm really hoping to feel back to normal by Christmas.

Happy Christmas to all you Lapbanders !

I am five days post gallbladder surgery and am doing well. I only had minimal discomfort the first two days after that I have been doing laundry and small things around the house.

To me it was a piece of cake. The thought that I can eat without the horrid pain I was having is a blessing in its self. Other then the incision in my naval itiching like crazy I would say all in all I am only taking alleve at night time as that is the time it bothers me the most. But other then that I feel awesome.

Yeah it is seeming a lot easier to recover from than lapband, I have no shoulder tip pain (touch wood) thank god, as last time I had it very badly. Plus I only just got given a second round of painkillers 7 hours after my first lot and I probably didn't even need this second lot! Looking forward to eating Breakfast tomorrow without worrying about the pain, even if it is hospital food!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
