any surgery has had deaths. its a horrible thing.

try not to worry/fret over that. trust your doctor.

i have not known anyone who has died from any wls.

i would have gotten worse and bigger if i didnt have wls.

i took that small risk of complications/death in order to save mine.

The only one I know of (not personally) is a woman that went to Mexico and something went horribly wrong.

That being said, Just this week a 16yo boy in town died while having a tonsillectomy. I tell you this b/c there is a risk in any surgery you have. My Dr told me I had a bigger risk of dying from obesity related causes than having LB. surgery.

thanks for the info. we all take risks regardless surgery or not i think its more of a risk gettin in ur car and driving, that being said i had a friend who died recently from tonsillectomy resulted she passed from blood clots! its scary but i rather have a healthier life then to die from obesity.

No I have not heard of any deaths that have been directly related to lapband surgery. I do understand being nervous, I was very nervous the night before and day of surgery. I had never had any surgery before, only time in the hospital was to have kids so it was a first for me. This is a big step but I can tell you that it is well worth the risk, I felt I had more chance of dying being morbidly obese. Good luck to you.

I could die on Tuesday as I am going under for my Tummy Tuck. But I really don't think it's my time yet so I am going to hope for the best. ;)

To answer your follow up question....I have lost 220 lbs in 2 years. I ate a balanced diet of 1000 calories a day.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
