Too tight??

Recommended Posts

I got my 4th fill 2 weeks ago. I could drink the eater in the office and was able to eat that night. Since the day after I am REALLY tight. I'm not sure if this is the restriction I'm supposed to feel...? I've lost 8 lbs since the fill. I was banded in early Sept and had lost 15 lbs, but jumped up to 23 after the fill.

I'm happy with the loss but I'm unable to keep down most foods. I'm basically on a liquid/very mushy diet. I can do smoothies, Soups, very soft cheese in small amounts, some noodles in the Soup if I really really really chew, no veggies staying down, no fruits unless blended, no meat will stay down. Most food is a joke - I huck it back up with a bunch of slime after 20 seconds.

I'm losing at a great rate since the last fill, but worried about my nutrition. I feel myself getting really tired around 3:30pm each day. My skin feels pretty dry and my hair feels a little more brittle. Went skiing this weekend, had half a glass of Protein smoothie and a few bites of soup all day, wasn't hungry but felt so weak I had to stop skiing at about 2:30pm (only lasted 5 hours!)

I'm not sure how much PBing is "normal". I PB every time I eat no matter what I'm eating.

I talked to the nurse at my docs office and she said to "stick it out" until my next fill appointment... I just feel like I can't really eat anything at all...? But I'm losing and isn't that the point???

Not if you are not getting the right nutrition in. Your band should not cause you to PB constantly.

At least that is my opinion, but if the nurse said hang in, I would try, but not for much more than a week.

You sound too tight. You're only eating slider foods which is not good. Plus, bands that are too tight can lead to slips, and that is definitely not something you want.

Give your doc a call and get his opinion- not the nurse's opinion.

It's hard to talk to the doc, they just put you through to the nurse and she returns the calls... But I'll be persistent and see if I can talk to the doc. Worst case scenario 2 weeks till my next appt I can stick it out for 2 more weeks then talk face to face... I just can't get in enough Protein not being able to eat meat.. I had some tofu but half of it it got PBd....

Hi

I haven't been banded yet, so you can take this advice for whatever it is worth. When is your next appointment? It really sounds like you are losing weight too rapidly (although weight loss is good, rapid loss is not - trust me, I know). If you're feeling fatigued and are seeing changes in your hair and skin in such a short time, something is not right. Sometimes there is a misunderstanding or breakdown when trying to communicate to medical folks over the phone. I think it simply happens because not only are they busy, but they hear from a lot of patients who over think things and exaggerate their situation and truth be told doctors don't always listen like they should to overweight people. Many think we are a bunch of complainers that are lazy and eat too much. She may not be hearing you. I would make another call and ask to speak to the doctor if possible. If not, talk to the nurse again and see if you can schedule your appointment sooner. Better safe than sorry. I hope things get better for you soon!

Definitely too tight. You can do one of two things: go get an unfill or just wait it out and be miserable. I cant see wanting weight loss that bad to be unable to eat.

I had my last doctors appt back in early Nov and today was the 1st time I experience pbing off of boiled eggs and all day I have just being burping all day. I was trying to take a nap and I kept waking up choking. Since my last dr appt I had an unfill and the only time I started having problem is when I went out of town where I was not able to eat during the whole trip. I thought the plane ride had something to do with it but when I returned I was able to eat again.

I guess I was just unsure of whether or not this was what it was supposed to feel like, especially since the nurse told me to stick it out...

Tell the nurse you can't stick it out anymore. Or go to the office and camp out!

Not good nutrition...I waited way too long...8 weeks...to get unfill. You need good nutrition to be healthy, even at a slower weight loss...it's ok!!!! I needed to eat so I could have energy to exercise! Just think about this, it took me some time to realize the weight loss is great, but not to compromise your health or a band slip.

While I also think you might be to tight, would you give some thought to these things. How much are you eating? 1/2c is what I'm told. How long does it take you to eat? How large are the bites? Finally, how much Water are you getting? I ask these things because they are the things I have been doing WRONG for almost 4 years. I got a fill on 30 Jul taking me to 5.5cc. It was the first time I really felt restriction. but I could still eat anything I tried. I am a mindless eater, it had never been based on overeating when I was hungry In Oct a trip kicked up my allergies and that made it hard for me to eat (normal for me), that passed but in Nov. I started to have issues again. 3 or 4 mins. after eating I had indigestion. Nothing coming up, but it hurt until I could make myself burp. Went to see the doc on the 5th, I don't think he read my sheet because he gave me .5cc, talked with me about the rules and sent me on my way. I did a day of fluids, and then I made changes. SMALL bites that I chew well and don't add anything until it is swallowed. I am eating so much less, and I am feeling much better. Even yogurt is less than a container and I go slow. I am satisfied quickly off of much less food. I must also sip my liquids and it is an all day thing getting in my fluids Hot flavored teas at night help with that. I did an unfill last year because i had irritated my throat getting stuck, so I'm not trying to go back there. I am very happy that my band is working, but it is making me do what I need to to get healthy. If you try some moist chicken and it won't go, see the doc before you do damage. I pound mine thin and pan grill quickly or use a little EVOO adding lemon juice when I flip it. Good lucl.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
