To tight and xmas aproaches fast...

Recommended Posts

I am fairly new with my lap band. Iv had it 10 weeks and iv lost 11 kilos. But this has occurred mainly because during my last visit I explained I had no restriction and a whole mill was put in my band. At first I was fine then I started getting sick a lot! I basically cant keep anything down at all. iv resorted to having just liquids in the last couples of days. I know I'm too tight but it's so close to Xmas, they r closed and my next adjustment isn't until the 22nd of jan! Xmas is going to suck big time!! :(

If you are too tight right now, jan 22 is too far away to get it sorted out. Does your fill centre close completely? Do they have an emergency number to call? If so call it and let them know what's going on, better to be safe than sorry.

The tightness is only going to get worse. My last fill did exactly the same thing - good for a couple of days, but then unable to keep anything down. Christmas should not be a concern - you will be miserable as the days go by. I last one week and when I finally could get to the doctor, he took out 1/2 cc and it made all the difference in the world! The down side is that because I had lost 10 pounds in 6 days, when food was finally able to stay down, I immediately gained a pound here and there until I hit 5 pounds gained. Now I'm stabilized, still down 5 pounds more, and am getting used to having real food again. Do yourself a favor - if it all possible, get a little taken out. Christmas will be no fun for you if you don't.

Thanks Summerrain, yeah I plan to call my clinic first thing in the morning. I'm hoping they will be open. They can't leave me suffering like this surely... Unfortunately no emergency number, and if I admit myself to hospital, unless something is majorly wrong they won't touch it. Feels like an emergency to me tho. Thanks for the advice. Iv been worried maybe iv dislodged it or something.

Hi CarrieBriwnsville. I expect something like that will happen to me too. I'm just praying the will somehow fit me in. I'm glad not the only one. Iv been second guessing myself thinking iv done something wrong. I appreciate you sharing ur experience with me :)

A band too tight is dangerous and can lead to slips. If you call your doctor's office, tell them what is happening (in detail) and they still say they can't help you for a month then it's time to find a new surgeon. That would be completely irresponsible and downright dangerous on their part and you deserve much better than that.

You cant wait that long. You have to get it taken out or you will end up dehydrated. Come on now they have an emergency number or go to the er and get some taken out.

I was able to see the surgeon today. He took .7 out. Omg I felt so much better straight away. Heart burn disappeared and everything. Although I was starving and sooooo thirsty. Considering I hadn't had anything to eat or drink, sounds normal to me. And when I did eat, no sickness. In fact I didn't even feel any restriction... That I find strange. But ATM this feeling is heavenly. Anyone else found that such a small difference can be the reason for being unable to eat to not even feeling any restriction?

I have had as little as .1 taken out and found it a world of difference. Glad you are feeling better...now try and get lots of Water in and rehydrate yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
