No way! I was given oxycodone to take every 4 hours. I'm not a big fan of pain pills, but if ya need them, ya need them! I think I took 2 pills the day after surgery and then I took one at bedtime for the next 3 nights. Didn't need anymore after that. tell your surgeon you'd like to have some just in case.

F.y.i while adult liquid tylenol is no longer sold you can buy store brand liquid acetaminophen at most stores. I thought 2 bottles and I think only used 1 and a half. I had no gas pain. After reading comments on this board I was really petrified because I'm allergic to codeine and morphine etc. I wouldn't stress myself out that you're going to be in horrible pain and not have pain killers. I was more tired than anything. Probably because I spent the first 2 nights after surgery in the bathroom; getting rid of all the liquids they pump into you.

Well- everyone is different. It does seem unusual that your surgeon isn't prescribing anything for pain. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I took percecet for the first 2 or 3 days. Beware if you have a long ride in the car, that's what bothered me the most. Good luck!

I took pain pills for the first two days. I think Tylenol is a bit light. Everyone has different pain thresholds, but really? You need to be prepared.

Pain killers make me sick. I took only adult strength liquid Tylenol (Cvs brand) and did fine. I had some discomfort but wouldn't say it was unbearable. Most important thing was getting up and walking to ease the gas and help the bloating.

I guess I was one of the luckily ones or I have an incredibly high pain threshold. I was told to take over the counter pain meds if needed. Here in Australia you can get the dissolvable adult pain meds. I only took them once for the shoulder pain when that hit but honestly for me it didn't help. I did have some pain and a lot of discomfort which I found if I walked around the house it helped. The shoulder pain, a lot say its due to gas but my surgeon told me its referred pain that comes from the diaphragm. In that situation I found walking helped with periods of laying flat on my back for ten mins and deep breathing and warm showers.

Maybe you might be one of he lucky ones that don't need it but if you do then make sure you take them every four or five hours so you have that build up in your system.

Best if luck to you and fingers crossed you don't get much pain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
