Tightness in chest

Recommended Posts

I got banded on Monday 10th Dec and so far thanks to this forum, no real surprises.

My NUT and Dr's office have me on mushy/soft food right away for 4-6 weeks. Obviously they said to take it slow and get fluids and Protein first, then asap move on to mushy protein.

My Dr's don't think it's necessary to be on a liquid diet for an extended period of time post op. (they are the highly reputable and amongst the top 5% in the country so i trust them)

So my problem is, there is NO WAY i'm ready to eat anything solid or mushy. I slowly sip protein shakes/protein smoothies i make and it takes me about 45 mins with slow sips and breaks. I feel a tightness in my chest when i sip these thick fluids. I still have some gas in my chest too...

I have 2cc in an 11cc band.

Is this cos i am only 4 days out and still very swollen inside?

I'm starting to feel hungry and shakes aren't cutting it, they pass right through. Also i don't want to rely on shakes for protein, i want to do as advised and get nutrients from food.

Can you guys share your experiences with how long until you could tolerate things like poached eggs/tuna salad/chicken salad etc etc...

yes, it sounds like because you are swollen. your are very early out..also, from my own learning experiences early on, drinking too fast/sipping too much caused discomfort. i was 2 weeks liquid post op, then 1 week mushy and then 1 week soft and then as tolerated.....

I was banded 12/7/12. I started mushies on day 6. Prior to that was Clear Liquids and my dr allowed 2 Protein Shakes as well. It still feels weird when I eat. Just take it slow and pace yourself.

Sounds early for mushies, but I would follow doctor's orders. Keep bites very small, and small sips. I did the three week liquids after surgery so no help there. The first mushy food I tried was scrambled eggs and cottage cheese, but chew even these!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
