Okay so want to try the lap band but im scared, I've heard it all and talked to two different people who it hasn't worked for.

Im 18 and about to graduate and go off to college, i want to go off to college like a new start. I have little motivation to exercise but i do eat healthy i just cant drop the weight.

Also im on my parents insurance still and i dont want them to have a huge bill.

Right now i weigh anywhere between 250- 275 because my weight fluctuates so much, and im 5'9.

So is the lap band right for me or not?

Aside from complications with the band that are no fault of the patient, it is extremely rare for the band not to work for someone. More often than not, it's because the person is eating around the band, over-eating, or not making healthy food choices. In those cases, the band is working fine, it's the person who's not working.

I would suggest finding a seminar near you so you can actually meet with a surgeon and learn more about the band and what to expect. Education is your key to making a good decision about the band.

Best wishes.

If this is an impulsive decision, I would advise to spend a year or so to research this, read this forum before you make such a drastic step?

Missy is right, educate yourself and see if you can work this band. If you follow some of the threads just from today you will see there are ppl here who have had the surgery and have no clue how it works. Don't be like that.

Get books, hang out here reading threads and asking questions. You do all that and yes, the band will work for you.

Talk to your parents and you PCP. You will need their support. It take a lot of commitment and want power, as well as focus... not sure first year of college is the time for this surgery.

Are you willing to change your lifestyle?

Are you willing to follow the band rules?

Are you willing to follow up with your doctor when you are supposed to no matter what?

Have you researched this fully?

Have you read about all the complications as well as the successes?

If the answer to these questions is yes then talk with your parents and PCP. If they agree then it is time, but if the answer to any of these questions is "not sure", "I don't know", "maybe", or "no" then it is not the time.

The band is a wonderful tool and if used correctly can give you wonderful results, BUT it takes a lot of hard work and commitment on our part and as you read from some of the responses our concern is that you won't give the commitment that is needed for success. This is nothing against you as you are young, just entering college and life will get in the way, trust me college life takes over everything else. All I'm saying is if the answer is yes then you are ready but be sure it is truly yes.

Good luck to you.

Bee well!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
