Really discouraged

Recommended Posts

Well this Wednesday I'll be two weeks post op. I lost 13 pounds in the week after surgery but as son as i went on to mushy food that stopped. I'm no longer feeling restriction (I guess the swelling has gone down) and I've actually gained two pounds! How can this be? Can I only lose weight on liquids? Am I that cursed? The first few days I was eating chicken salad and i think that was a bad choice so I'm sticking to chicken baked at home now bit come on, gaining???

Your body is still adjusting. Give it a little time. I would stick to plain chicken and add a good high Fiber veggie.

I really don't understand why ppl can't believe they gain after adding real food.< /p>

You've gone from liquids to food, from almost starvation diet, to food. Of course you're going to gain a little. Most of the 13 lbs was Fluid that you were pumped with and from swelling.

That is why this is not suppose to be the losing phase, but the healing phase!

Stick to your Drs orders and e everything will begin to click.

Two weeks is much to soon to get discourage!

Maddy, I didn't think of it that way. I guess if I knew this was normal I'd feel better, and it sounds like you're saying it is.

It is normal and it makes sense. Don't get discouraged! Just keep going! You will lose it, your body needs to adjust!

You're absolutely right! I went for 6wk post op check and Dr (God Bless Him) said "that was all you (36lbs), band hasn't started working yet, but I promise soon it will".

Hang on through Bandster Hell!

And the minute you move to mushies is when to start tracking your calories and measuring your food. You would be surprise how small 1/4 of mashed potatoes is. This and only this will help you lose and will get you though until you get in the green zone.

Yep... you will lose if you follow portion sizes and don't cheat. Hang in there, the beginning is the toughest part!

Thanks to all the stuff you experienced bandsters have said, I totally "get it" that the first few months are for healing, not losing. Y'all have made it very clear not to expect any weight loss for a few weeks. I'm 4 days post op, only able to consume a max of 100 calories a day (not hungry/can't eat), and will not get on a scale until I go back for my 2-week follow up appointment.

I was out of town and I guess I missed your band day. Congratulations! You're going to do great!

Every Dr is different. I had 30 days of full liquids.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
