Can I eat greens now?

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post-banded and am moving onto "soft" foods. I have made a delicious looking tuna salad with egg, very moist. Can I take a few leaves of arugula, moisten them lightly with a vinaigrette and eat them with the tuna salad?

I am a little scared about eating solids, so will chew each small bite like a maniac before swallowing.

What cha think?

Thanks for any and all responses.

Pam

I'm not so sure that greens qualify as mushies. Give your Dr a call and ask?

Grats on your weightloss. It's melting away!

I would hold off on the greens for now. Add them in when you are on regular food which is what? next week?

Enjoy your tuna salad..... I remember it was like heaven after no real food for 4 weeks.

I think cooked greens like spinach etc might be OK, but salads are a sticking point (literally) for lots of bandsters -- I could JUST eat them at about 4 months post banding. Then I got my 2nd fill and now they are a no again for a while..................

I don't know why, but lettuce is one of the things that I can get down very easily. I enjoy salads several times a week now. But I would wait until you're on full foods before trying it.

Have you heard of Maloukia? It is a green but it is made chopped up very fine (diced) and boiled with meat and spices. I am still on liquids and was missing vegatables so I made it as a Soup today. It is very nutritious. It's usually served as a sauce over rice in most middle eastern and african nations.

I have never heard of that I and I consider myself somewhat of a gourmet - I will search my local market - thanks

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
