I had surgery on March 30. I have yet to have a fill. Why? Because my stupid doctor will not give me one. He says oh ur young, u can do it. If I could do it I wouldn't had surgery, jackass!!! I do feel good about the 40lbs I have lost but I think I can do better if I had a fill. Now that I haven't seen him in about 3 months, the office is calling wanting me to come in for a fill. I told the office I'm not coming in unless I get a fill. If he's not going to give me one I'm not wasting my time and gas to come. Now they are pissing me off...#frustrated#

Frustrating, but note you HAVE lost 40 pounds! It sure beats gaining!

40 lbs is a good loss but most doctors will let you get to a 2 lbs loss a week before they. Get stingy with fills. Mine is tight with filling... Often I had to beg for them and several times I was denied because I had lost 8-10 lbs that month.

Why not go into the office and have a good conversation with the dr... Tell him you got the band to have a tool and you believe with a fill it will be more effective. Not going isn't good.... That's how people get off track so try it one more time and be Prepared with every thing you are doing... So he knows you are doing your part like tracking food, portions, calories etc.

Good luck

Great advice Floridays. I just wanted to add: I dont know about everyone else, but have heard my problem is common. "Exam room amnesia." I forget most of what I want to say/accomplice. FINALLY, I followed thru on an intent to jot my notes on an index card. Put arrows by each point to separate them. It worked fantastically. At first it was rather embarrassing, but only because of my insecurity. It only took one dr. asking one time what the 3x5 was for, and I gave him a brief explanation, how I could never remember....

He complimented me for doing this, and said that he wished more of his Patients would do this(I guess quite a few were doing it too), as it made the appointments much smoother, and the allotted time was plenty in that things were more organized, and the patients much happier.

Anyways, after he said this to me, I never felt embarrassed after that!

Good luck! Sandy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
