W/OUT THE LAPBAND WHO'S LOST 100 pounds

Recommended Posts

I had someone say on one of my threads that many have lost 100 pounds or more w/out the lapband, that are presently using the lapband to do the same thing. If this is true of you, Id love to hear how you did it, without the lapband. I may have to try it again. First time I did it was with dr perricones weight loss diet. But, I looked haggard I was told much later. Not healthy. Sincerely, Sandy

I lost 100 lbs several times before I was banded... And gained every bit of it back...thus the band!!

I was successful with Jenny Craig, weight watchers, Adkins and some liquid diet back in the 90s where I dropped 100 in about a minute and put it back on the second I started eating. I learned nothing on any of those programs... Or maybe better put... I learned if I didn't continue to eat what was on the diet I would gain it back.

Not anymore. :)

Wow.. Thanks Sandy. I was banded 2 years ago today actually... And I have literally lived becoming one with my band...and the one thing that kept me going was the continued loss...and the will power to finally live the life as a slim person. I am finally there.

I guess that I am the one that said a lot of us have lost 100 lbs and gained it back. Back in the "old" days, I lost using several methods and gained back many times. I used WW, TOPs(take off pound sensibly), pre-digested Protein diet, and just starvation as a very young woman. Most of the time, once you stop, you gain back what you lost and then some. i just was saying that with the lapband, unless you eat around your band, it is not as likely that you will gain back what you lost. At least that was my experience.Don't get me wrong, if you have the will power to lose the 100 lbs and keep it off, then you don't need Lapban surgery!!!! Best wishes, Karen

PS:Most of us, do not and need the tool(lapband) to help us.

PPS: Floridays said she gained it back after the losses. I remember that my Pre-digested protein diet, I couldn't eat anything for awhile.

To me, losing the weight isn't the best benefit of the lap band. It is knowing that the band will help me keep it off. At Last!

Yep, lost it, gained it, lost it, gained it!

WW,TOPS,Atkins, walking. Like I told my surgeon "I have no problem losing,it's keeping it off that's the problem". Hoping LB will finally change that.

And to answer another post you made, yes more likely health issues kill me, than LBS.

If we all could lose 100lbs and keep it off without the band we all would have by now I am sure. Yes you can lose 100lbs but you can not keep it off.

Cheryl you may not be able to keep it off and I may not but there are plenty people who do and can. Sandy don't let anyone make you not believe in yourself!

Speaking from personal experience I had no problems loosing weight pre band but like the majority have said keeping it off was my issue and when I'd put it back on it was with extra too. A lot of people can loose it and keep it off and I wish I was one of them but I'm not and finally at 49 years old and weighing in at a hefty 366 pounds I started researching the lapband. It took me a good year to make my decision and in that year again I gave it another good shot at trying to loose and keep it off. I'd hit a hurdle as in a plateau and backwards I went again. Had my lapband put in on 2 nd July 2012 and today, five months later I weigh 290 pounds. For me so far it's been the best decision in helping me loose and keeping it off so far, it's not easy, it's a lot of work and a lot of frustration at times but in saying that not once have I wanted to give up these last five months.

So yes do your research, give it your best to loose and keeping it off and you may be one of the lucky ones that can maintain the loss if not then maybe lapband is the way to go.

I know I will reach my goal, might take me two to three years but one thing I know I will never go back to where I was and I believe having this tool will help me keep the weight of finally. Fingers crossed I don't develop any lapband complications down the track.

Best wishes to you and I'm sure you'll make the right choice for you.

All excellent posts.

Hely I dont look at it that way. I never thought about in those terms, Do I feel I can keep it off THIS TIME, or am I gonna be starting a wicked cycle once again. THAT is hard on the body in and of itself. Its not a matter of not having faith in myself. Its just that MYSELF (the part that isnt flesh) really loses control over the part that IS FLESH from time to time,MENOPAUSE is an excellent example! I know that illness and the couch were not totally ALL OF WHAT was goin on. Menopause WAS, Depression was, and a ton of other non flesh things, that effected the flesh in the gaining weight way.

Can I keep the weight off? When I can answer that for sure to MYSELF, then I'll be able to "commit" some as someone once said, to the preferred course. Well I may have a few other little questions to, like which method.THAT isnt a character flaw as someone also once inferred, as I KNOW MY BODY BETTER than anyone else. However, Surgeons know their Business best, and I need to know which procedure would best apply to my body.

I Need to talk to a Surgeon, which I have yet to do. I saw something Alex (our beloved Alex) wrote and it included types of procedures I'd never even heard of.There is much MUCH WISDOM in and amongst these threads/forums.Some awesome folk and its a pleasure to be in the company of all. Thanks yall so very much, all of you.

Sincerely,

Sandy

Previously I have lost 100 pounds 3 times and gave it back. After a major health scare I lost 100 pounds and then decided to have lap band. I've since I lost another 70 but still really probably have another 50 or 60 to go. To me having the band helps me feel like I can keep it off this time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
