I had surgery on Wednesday, and the worst part has been the gas pain in my chest and occasionally shoulder. I went to the dr on Friday and had Fluid from the band removed. That helped with the reflux feeling, but I still have chest pains. Anyone out there that can relate and provide some hope?

I always hear its best to walk as much as possible. Raise your arms up in the air. Gas pain can be really bad.You said you just had surgery and they already took saline out?

Gas x, heating pad, walking, peppermint tea. I think you are suppose to stay out of baths, hot tubs and swimming pools until all of your incisions have healed and there is no scabs.

Yes, they took saline out because I was so uncomfortable. The swelling of the new band along with the added saline made it to where I couldn't even drink small sips without hurting. My husband and I had it on the same day and have had very different experiences. Sipping on Peppermint tea as I post...thanks for all of the input!

The incisions didn't hurt at all, I've had cramps worse than that but the gas pain is unbearable. 2 of my incisions were almost in my belly button so sitting down is uncomfortable right now. I've been on my feet most of the day walking and waving my arms and no gas relief (even tried gasX and heating pad). My shoulders simultaneously hurt and it feels like a ton of bricks on my chest. I can't lay down so sleeping is out of the question. I'm just horrible right now. the pain medicine is hardly doing anything. I just hope it gets better soon, i don't manage well with lack of sleep. i know it will all be worth it... Just gotta keep reminding myself that

Gas X Strips will do wonders, for your left shoulder and neck and stomach. Place on your tongue and it dissolves! You will be pain free.

It does get better! It is miserable the first days after surgery. Hopefully, your surgeon gave you pain prescriptions. TAKE THEM. They reduce swelling. The walking helps your body get rid of the gas they pump into you to inflate you during surgery. In my case the pain and cramping settled in the left side of neck and shoulder, aggravating an old injury. They kept me an extra day in hospital and gave me IV with the Good Drugs, thank goodness. On about day five the cramping and most of pain was gone. Hang on...it passes, but truly the worst part of surgery. We all can sympathize with what your going thru right now. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
