1derland1der 4 Posted December 8, 2012 Hi all As a Jew, my holiday season starts tonight, though I too have plenty of holiday parties to conquer. I was banded 10/16/12 (starting 265, day of surgery 251, today 225) and haven't been filled, so I'm extra cautious and trying to stay on track. Does anyone know the myth behind sweet potatoes? Are they really better/healthier then regular ones? I stuck to them at Thanksgiving (vs regular), but in general...I'm wondering. As far as other holiday parties, I'm careful with what I eat and the fried goodnesses of Hanukkah I will bake, but again...the potato myth-anyone? 1 Banjo257 reacted to this
Maddysgram 6,159 Posted December 8, 2012 Sweet potatoes have more Vitamin A & potassium than white potatoes. So yes, they are slightly better than white.
Eria 2 Posted December 8, 2012 Elodie.landerson mentioned them in a post on the 2nd or 3rs December. I was going to ask dietitian about this and more in mosay Elodie said: -Sweet Potatoes- Sweet potatoes unlike most other vegetables are higher in calorie content but are worth all of them. Sweet potatoes contain resistant starch, which produces compounds to signal to the brain to stop eating. The bulk in sweet potatoes fills the stomach so you feel full. Carotenoids in nsweet potatoes stabilize blood sugar levels and lowers insulin resistance.
♥LovetheNewMe♥ 1,216 Posted December 8, 2012 Sweet potatos are better than white, leave off the butter and brown sugar (in the south the love them as sweet as possible) I find them nice just they way they are and a great source of Fiber.< /p>
Banjo257 920 Posted December 8, 2012 White potatoes don't really have muchnutrition to offer. Sweet potatoes are like little miracle spuds. Full of Vitamins and minerals. Happy Hannaka to you and your family. Remember the miracle or as Adam Sandler says, enjoy the eight crazy nights

zinhaa 363 Posted December 8, 2012 Happy Chanukkah or any way you choose to spell it. Sweet potatoes are better as all have stated above. Honestly it isn't chAnukkah for me with out an old fashion latke. What i do is i have 1 latke and may have a sweet potato. it isn't going to kill me and then i walk away. Since i make them i will only make a few so as not to tempt myself. The frozen ones do not tempt me. If you choose to have one my suggestion is go slow and chew chew chew. Happy chanakah and my the lights of the menorah bring warmth to your home and your heart. Wendy
1derland1der 4 Posted December 9, 2012 Thanks all. I had one latke, and made sure to squeeze all the extra oil etc. I also paired it with a bit of veggies, and made this my most caloric part of the day. Also making sure to drink Water til the end of today. Happy Holidays! 1 zinhaa reacted to this
