Tomorrow I start my 2 week liquid preop diet. I have gone to the classes, bought what I need, have a surgery date (12/20/12). I can't get my mind to turn off, can't sleep, i'm really nervous. I didn't think I would be like this. I know all the info, but still feel unprepared. Is this normal? I want and need to do this, but i'm apprehensive...

Perfectly normal dear... just don't let it throw you off course. You will be banded before you know it! Welcome!

I feel the same way-- and am almost same timing! I'm on day 3 of pre-op diet and will be banded on the 18th. I've talked myself in and out of actually doing this at least 5 times-- I'm worried about change, about not changing - about my body rejecting the band--I keep telling myself the majority of people say they wish they had done it sooner-- I am hoping to be in that group soon!! Good luck --at least we have great support here!!

Pre-surgery jitters. You know what you need to do so try to focus on that. It will pass soon and good things are about to happen. :)

Best of luck to both of you <<upcoming banders>>. :)

I just was banded so I cant relate to your fears., I was the same way and I had some success with the pre-op so I second guessed myself. Why can't I do it on myself or with the shakes. The answer is I haven't done it in the 10 years I have been overweight. It is so normal and I spent alot of time on this site looking at other people's success. I tried to focus on the positive and how different my life will be a year from now. Best of luck and as the others say stay focussed on the prize

It's totally normal for someone about to make major life changes to feel nervous about their surgery. You most likely know more about what you need to do than you give yourself credit for.

When you begin to feel nervous, get back in touch with your reasons for wanting to become healthier. If you have not already done so, create some goals for yourself, and begin to plan on what you need to do to accomplish them.

Most, if not all of us have had similar experiences...so come back often and receive positive feedback and encouragement. There are many supportive and knowledgeable members on this forum who will be here for you!

Best wishes for a successful journey...

Sweetie the first few days after I got my date (12/14), I couldn't sleep at all! I blamed it on my bed because I changed my room around! Lol!!!

I's normal. Just take a picture of yourself with a tank top and sweat pants on and look at it every time you have doubts! Then picture yourself skinny and believe me, your doubts will disappear!

I felt a little like how you are feeling too. BUT I'm two months post op and I've already lost 42% of what I need to lose!

If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have lost any sleep!

Hang in there!

I'm having the same thoughts. My date is the 28th so i start my preop on the 13th. It is all of the sudden so real and I'm totally having 2nd thoughts. It's crazy because I've been wanting this for years and now I'm so close. It doesn't make sense to back out now. I'm just freaking out.

I was a total wreck, too. I was nervous about everything from surgery (my first ever) and the whole process. The staff at the surgery center were so wonderful. I'm sure they're used to nervous patients, and they know how to take care of you and help you relax. I felt like I was more at a spa than a hospital. It was awesome! Afterwards, instead of focusing on what a perfect experience with the band should be, I forged my own path and worked with the program the way it best fit me. It's a process and a learning curve, one that you have to be flexible with. This site is a wonderful means of support, especially if you don't have any local groups. Friends and family are wonderful for support, too, but they will never "get it" like a fellow bandster. :D

I was wrapped in a blanket rocking back and forth like a drug addict from a bad 70's movie for the first 3 days but then it gets better. Hang on DO IT EXACTLY! This will give you some relief in 3-4 days. The reality is you are likely coming off sugar and carbs and it makes us agitated (my skin crawled) plus the mental anxiety of the finality of surgery and your new life.

Many people have found that past the first 3-4 days it not only gets better but you get a kind if mental freedom - not having to think about food all the time. I just viewed the liquid diet like taking meds - set my timer took it ( drank shake) when it went off and moved on.

If you are wondering ... Yes it's worth it. I have lost over 250 lbs and changed my life.

Hope in your future is power in your present !

Lee

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
