Before I contact the nutritionist with some specific questions I figured I would check here first. I was banded on 11/26 and started full liquids today. I'm wondering how long people did liquids before introducing purees? Our pre op program has all weight loss surgeries lumped together so I'm wondering if it's necessary to be on liquids for as long as those other folks or if it can be as tolerated? I feel like their guidelines are a really long time to not be eating real food. I understand the need to let your body heal but they have it almost a month before you're eating solid foods. Just wondering what others experiences are. If I have to do it that long I will!

I never had to be on 'clear liquids' except whilst in hospital..

2 weeks liquids only including 3 or more Protein shakes a day.. Even liquid yoghurt etc.

I was also banded on the 26th and I go onto purée / mushies on Monday. So 2 weeks normal liquids, 2 - 3 weeks mushies then introducing soft foods and normal foods

Pre-op diet consisted of sf Jello and pudding, broths, yogurt, Protein Shakes and anything else liquid. Hospital stay 24 hrs after sugery and was allowed ice chips, and sf Popsicles. Once home I was allowed anything on my pre-op diet plus oatmeal and cream of wheat for 2 weeks. Then mushies for 2 weeks then solids. Yep, 1 month of modified diet before solids... Every doc is different. My doc deals only with lapband patients. I would email your doc to ask specifics for your lapband procedure since they have the info all lumped together.... Good luck :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
