Mine was about 45 minutes and My Dr pretty much gave me an overview of how the band works, what I would need to do to be successful and an overview of the reasons people fail. He answered most of my questions with out me asking the questions as obviously it wasnt his first rodeo. Additionally I asked questions like.. how long was recovery, how does the band help me keep the weight off once I lose it, what sort of involvement does he offer in the way of my follow up, detailed explanation of fills, why might I need to have the band removed one day and how it compares to the other weight loss surgeries out there.

Ok!! Sounds good! Thanks for the reply. I'm a little nervous though.

My appointment was about an hour. Just like Floridays, the doctor went over how the band works and criteria for being a successful candidate. I also met with the insurance specialist and she told me exactly what my insurance would need prior to them submitting me for approval.

I go the 18th and they told me to expect to be there 3-4 hours! Every surgeon is different I guess. I have no idea what may take that long.

Sounds about right. I had a mini physical with nurse practitioner, met with psychologist, nutritionist, saw video in how band works.

I have my first meeting on the 18th and they have me set up for two appointments back to back. One with what I call the diet Dr, as well as a second appt right after with the PA and the nutritionist. They said allow an hour for each appt, so two hours total.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
