I was banded on May 16th of this year.Had 6 fills with a total of 7.3 cc in an 11 cc band.Lost a total of 67 lbs.Good huh??Well today I found out my band has a leak near the band itself.Doc said 2 things could have happened 1 the band had a leak wene it was placed during surgery or 2 wene the surgeon who put it in out in Las Vegas nicked it wene he was sewing it to my stomach. Now I have to go back out to Vegas(I live in Arkansas) and have it replaced.ow its no fault of mine so I dont know whats gonna happen. My question is this...Has anyone else had to have a band replaced and If so what do I have in store for myself? Is the surgery the same,do I have to do a post op diet AGAIN,just really any info is much needed and appreciated.Really depressed about this and in complete awww that I lost this much weight with a leaky band....Help with info please.Thanks.

I am in complete awe that you have achieved so much success with a leaky band! Congratulations. You are awesome.

Regardless of what you have to go through, just remember that it is all worth it. I'll bet you are feeling so much happier and healthier with your weight loss to date. Imagine how much better you will continue to feel as you get even further down the path!

Re having to do the pre-op diet again - personally, I would be surprised if you did because the purpose of the pre-op is to shrink your liver and the weight you have lost will have done that already.

You may have to go through the post-op phases again :(

Be sure to take and follow your surgeon's advice.

Why do you have to go so far? There r doctors near you. The post op surgery is so your liver would begin to shrink making it easier to lift during surgery. Our stomach is behind the liver. The diet also cleans you digestive track making surgery easier on you. I would think being that you have lost so much, you would only need to be on liquids a day or two pre op.

Sorry to hear of your band leak.

I had my band replaced recently.

I didnt have a specific pre-op diet, but post-op will probably be the same as your first surgery. After 2 days of liquids, I was put on mushies for 4 weeks.

It is a difficult phase! Once the swelling goes down, you might feel wide open and the mushies don't even begin to satisfy.

You seem like a motivated person though (67 lbs in 7 months is awesome!)--you should get through it just fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
