Im Thinking Of Getting The Lap Band

Recommended Posts

I am a 24 yr old girl from defiance ohio. And am wondering if anyone knows how to get the ball rolling to have the lapband done...I'm 5ft 1in and I weigh 240lbs. For my height I should only weigh 101 to 120. I have a handicapp son so being overweight is hard to do things with him.I have tried all kinds of diets and exersice and I eat healthy and little meals. When I was 16 I struggled with eating disorders. Now my kidneys are starting to not function and I have a lot of stomach ulcer. I have buckeye as my medical insurance. I just hope you guys can help me in the right direction.

Hi Mommy,

I would recommend that you first contact your health carrier just to make sure that weight loss surgery (i.e) lapband is covered by your insurance. Secondly, you can start research on finding a bariatric surgeon in your area or nearby and make an appointment to attend a weight loss seminar or speak with the surgeons.

Making a list of questions before you speak with the surgeon is a great idea, that way you don't forget anything you may want to ask. It is important as well to let the surgeon know any medical conditions you may have so that they can decide what will be best for you.

Hope that helps!

Best of luck in your journey :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
